Genghis, I guess it just doesn't feel like they have done all that much. Last years sets are available, though limited, here. I was just hoping for more than one wave over the course of a year.

If the LGSs where you are are not judgemental Ghenghis, do not plan on them being in business two-to-five years from now.
Every good store has to make judgements so that they stay in business.
If I am in a distinct minority who wants a certain item, I better be told to go somewhere else if I want that store to survive the long haul.
Especially so in this day of large minimum orders from the distributors!

Additionally, you seem to have missed the comment that no store, meaning any and all types of retail store, is carrying Heroscape whatsoever!
Plus, I was not exagerating about no store in an hundred miles Ghenghis; in fact there may be no store within 250 miles that is still carrying the product for this game.
You are definitely an Easterner if you think someone out West here does not really mean an hundred miles down the road when they say it.

Hasbro/WOTC burned a good many stores (even Wal-Mart) with this change of control last year and the poor release schedule in both 2007 and 2008 did not help.
No one wants to touch the product for fear of being left out in the cold - again!

Maybe stores in high population areas like where you are from back East can afford to have product sit on the shelves for a while, but out West where I am, where less than a quarter million folks shop in the regional shopping here, product has to be items that regularly move off the shelves and Heroscape ain't it!

I think stores that sell what people want are ones that stay in business. Stocking what won't fly off the shelves or dealing only with a game system that the owners play is foolish and unwise. Totally astounds me that GW still has stores that are dedicated to only 3 systems.

And I truly am envious of ghengis for being able to buy locally.

Actually, I cannot see how you say I said anything you said I said in my earlier comments.
Those points just simply are not there.

I have seen two gaming stores that went out of business because of capital mis-use problems including primarily, spending too much of their capital on special orders of obscure gaming supplies trying to keep the irregularly-visiting customer happy.
Right now, Heroscape is one of those obscure gaming supplies.
Meanwhile, I have not seen a single game store go out of business that has kept well-stocked of the currently produced manufacturer-supported games to keep their regularly-visiting AND playing customers happy.
Too much special ordering is a common way to the game shoppe graveyard hell.

Regularly supported shoppe events, good stock levels of in-production games (especially figures) that are supported by the manufacturer, gaming leagues to play those games in and a pro-painted set of figures for shoppe display and another well-painted one for shoppe demos and events is the way to game shoppe heaven.
I have seen that pay off for about three decades!

That is also how GW has had successful shoppes on three (or is it now four) continents for over twenty years.
We, gamers, may not like GW prices or their wacky developmental & manufacturing methodologies, but they stay true to good retail models.
That is why GW Retail is still around, especially outside the retail hell of the U.S.A.

The only other type of gaming shoppe I have seen succeed is the game shoppe that is not a game shoppe.
They commonly are comic, model, hobby or toy shoppes that also do gaming products.
The best one though I have seen did paintball guns and supplies as the bill-paying and main profit-making product line; it was interesting to watch that staff turn a lot of paintballers into gamers and a lot of gamers into paintballers.
I must say that last shoppe is the most successful game shoppe I have ever seen.
They were able to do well and frequently what a game shoppe must do to be truly successful - create new gamers and create new demand for new product.
If a game shoppe only sells what they are asked for, again, that is a quick route to the game shoppe graveyard hell.

Years ago, almost two decades ago now, wrote a professional article on this phenomenon.
Y'all may not love me folks, but I do have the experience and the knowledge to back this position up.
I have worked at both the retail and the manufacturer level along with mail order experience.
I KNOW this industry even when I have been out of it professionally for the last several years except as a gamer.
The basic principles of success in this industry have not changed at any time in the last 30 or so years folks.
