I don't think there is anything wrong with getting laid off. (Yup, I got the boot in the tech meltdown.)

Honestly, think of it as an opportunity to find somewhere better to work.

In my world, companies are a dime a dozen, and if they don't meet my needs, I find another. I mean really, its not like businesses actually care about you.

I'm an extremely experienced enigneer.. but after years of searching, I've found a company where all my peers where sandles, and show up when they like. My boss, just gets out of my way so I can get things done. I've been looking for this for 17 years.

So cheer up and get looking.

I too am out of a job right now. I just got "let go." I realize that it isn't quite the same thing, as I am a college student and was only working part time. Although, I started that job working 35 hours a week consistently and they decreased over a period of only 5 or 6 months to 17 hours on my last schedule. That is the second job to get let go of this year (the other place closed down and this time I was "the new guy").

I haven't had a chance in the last week to look for another job due to getting sick right after losing my job and then the end of the semester hit (ugh...finals ). I was thinking that I would just hold my breath until the holidays pass, but now I am starting to despise being home all of the time and will start looking once I finish out my classes.

Now , i must to say than though i continue worried, i look my new situation with other "cristal". About years i was always giving the best at work...but i really think i lose my self in the way. Ok, when i look behind i can be proud with the job well done in this years.But...not with myself. Im always try to do the best in all the fields of my life...my work, my friendship, my family...but im forget my self in some moment. I was wrong. To me its time to discover a new life ...my own life.With my bad english i dont know if you can understand whats i try to say.I dont want be the best in the world in something...but im always try to be the best José Luis in all...Now when i analyze my past, i think than i fail in the thing most important...i forget LIVE.
And its time to correct this error.

When I said live my life for others, I was talking about the point where you realize that when you live to keep yourself healthy and happy so everyone you love is happy, you're truly happiest.

So many times in my life (and in the lives of my friends) I've noticed that I've been so focused on myself and doing everything perfectly for my career. That I've put my health and personal happiness on the back-burner. It was selfish in a way I can't describe.

Then, my heart problems got worse and I noticed everyone around me who loved me. They were not happy, and they were worried sick about me! Especially my family and my closest friends.

So I've been looking out for myself with less pressure on myself to be perfect and the ideal career guy (in my eyes). And I found that I'm happier and healthier, and so is everyone else, which just makes me even happier.

My thoughts go out to you, gloriar. As somsone who has started his life over from scratch five times in the last fifteen or so years, I know what it means to start over. It may not feel like that right now, but sometimes a new start can be a good thing. Best of luck on your reboot.
