Hi, I am hosting a roleplaying club for pre-teens, and I think about getting these sets for us to play on.
But my question is: What games to play on these sets?
I need some suggestions for moderately easy to learn games that can be played on these sets, preferably suggestions for all the genres. (I gotta ask them what genre thay want to play. Sci-fi, Medieval, or Pirate.)
But yeah. Any suggestion welcome. I need them soon by the way so thanks to everyone who answers quickly.

D&D, particularly 4th edition, is well within the grasp of that age range in the fantasy genre.

It has its detractors (some of which will speak up any minute now), but it is the biggest fantasy RPG out there, with immense product support.

Plus, it can work for pirate adventures quite readily as well.

Umm....The answer about the first question its easy...you can use WWg models to play anything you want. About the games....D&D (medieval fantasy) its a good game to start. With the 4th edition release i think you could find the rules 3th edition rules books cheaps.I like Anima too, but its dificult learn the mechanic for new players.
Sci-fi may be Heavy Gear (Corporations in war, mech, space travels), Star wars or my favorite...Cyberpunk. All are very easy and funny to play.
Really you can use WWG sets with any game...you just must find the ideal genere to run your aventures. If the teens are never play a RPG. you should look for a game with an easy system. This with a good history plot, some miniatures and WWG sets can be a great and funny experience to the childrens.I hope my answer be a little usefull. Good luck!!!!

Necromunda (free rules) and Platform Command (any) seems a natural fit. Easy to use standees for as well.

Let me be the first to say Savage Worlds. Very simple to learn system. Works for any genre. Books available for most. Has skirmish rules.

D20 (D&D 3.5/4.0, and Modern) is a great, easy system as well. Requires a bit more fiddling to get it to fit with any genre than SW does, but their are source books for just about anything you could want.

Blood and Swash/Thunder and Plunder - not truly a role play system, it is a low level skirmish system that can be set in nearly any time frame, and the low level (individuals, with each player taking a couple of figures or up to a group of 10) allow the characterization of the individual figures to a role play enviornment. Same authors as Wargames For Little Hands. Extremely easy to learn and play. Little book keeping.

Savage worlds because it's really easy to grasp (and has free test drive rules PDF)

True20 because it's D20 without the other dice. Quite a few times mentionned with Savage worlds as the better "generics". Also has test-drive rules pdf, and a sample adventure.

Apparently Castles & Crusades does DnD a lot simpler than 3rd or 4th ed, but I have no firsthand knowledge of how it plays tho.

Star Wars anything should be good with this crowd as well.

Cyberpunk is Shadowrun for me.

Spycraft for modern.

The new Traveller by Mongoose publishing is great for use with sets such as Mars Station, First Light, Platform Command, etc. (if you like sci fi).

And any game that supports 25-32mm figures works well with these sets. You'll just have to find rules that you and your group likes.

Well, naturally I would recommend Savage Worlds but I'm also a big fan of Castles & Crusades. For pre-teens I think I would actually do C&C; its very easy, cheap, and fun.

I have run games in that age bracket with True20 - a simplified D20 based game that is similar to GURPS in the sense that it is intended to be used with pretty much any genre.

So, you can teach it to the kids once and then run anything from mediaeval fantasy to science fiction to technothriller and Cthulhu. There is enough in the core book to run a wide range of games.

I have also run a lot of Mordheim for kids - and like Necromunda it is available as a free download. It is fairly forgiving as to what miniatures will work, too - my Witchhunters and Vampires warbands use minis from GW, Reaper, and Rakham. Not quite a roleplaying game, but lots of fun. (And one of the reasons I started buying World Works, way back when. )

This summer I ran a Pathfinder/D&D game for some of my players' kids. It went a lot better than I expected, the kids picked it up very quickly. And like both Mordheim and Necromunda the rules are available . I also picked up the printed softcover Beta rules - and may attempt to get another - I am pretty happy with it.

Whichever rules you choose you will find the job exhausting, but also very rewarding. I really miss my old summer job.

Well if you want wargames I agree with clix games. You can use any of their line with WWG terrain.

RPG's?

I started my 10 year old son on GURPS Lite (its free to download) after a few games we started adding more advanced rules in.

How about TOON by Steve Jackson Games. Hilarius game!

I would suggest that you hit the , they produce Savage Worlds. This is a system that is lite, fast and furious. There is a range of to download all with pregen characters and often with paper figures to boot.

There is the free, this allows you to run the above adventures.


This is a must esp. with the exploding dice for the younger generation. If you like it the core book... the only real book you need goes for the sweet price of $10US (wither hardcopy or pdf).

Thanks for all these suggestions. So yeah. It must be an role playing game, so wormhole is a no-no. That true20 looks promising.
Some more backstory: I host it once a week and WE ONLY HAVE 90 MINUTES PER WEEK.
So it must be possible to play short games and/or easily stop and continue later.
Also, there is this one problem with Hellworks and things like that:
The club is promoted by our local church and held in the churche's cellar.
So... Well you get the point.

I would still hit the Test drive rules and the one shot adventures. True20 is great as well but off the top of my head I do not know if it has a quick start ruleset.

If you have more time to prepare, I'd go with True20. If you have to improvise, then I'd suggest you go with Savage Worlds.

Of the two I vastly prefer True20.

In particular - I really did not like the rules for weird science in Savage Worlds - and in fact became rather angry with them over it. It treats weird science as magic, a sad disappointment after the excellent way it was handled in the original Deadlands.

For True20 Reality Blurs makes a quite decent set of rules entitled Gearcraft - which handles a steampunk setting rather well.

Both are fairly simple system, but in my estimation Savage Worlds sacrifices flavor in favor of overly simplifying, well, everything.

What I suggest that is alltogether free, fun, role-playing, and church friendly (players don't kill the bad guys) is Marvel Super Heroes RPG. Its an old systerm, but all the PDF's are free and there are complete rule books and ready made campaigns to choose from.
