Sad, Sad Garage sale story to follow.....

A kid I started D&Ding with went to college and his mom sold his comic book collection for $1 per box. Guess she thought the $150 bucks was a good deal. His collection was worth (according to him) about $100,000 at the time (when comics were better than stocks). He had things like Spider-Man #1, Detective Comics from the 40's, all in mint or near mint condition. His grandfather thought they might be good for a time capsule or some such thing and kept them really nice.

Real shame. Of course his mom was a total psycho. When his older brother went to college she sold all of his stuff and changed the locks on the doors.

I have never found anything useful at a garage sale. I have found useful stuff at 2nd hand stores.

You guys ever wondering how much "valuable" items are lost in garage sales as most people don't know how hard they are to find?

If they don't sell they throw them out.

Today I found a large hardcover Star Wars book of ship cross-sections for $1.

And the pc game Nox, also a buck.

Today 4 box controllers and 1 gamecube one. Price $.10 each, or a quarter for all of them.

After testing only 1 xbox one didn't work. But the end of it's cord does allow me to use a controller I already owned that was missing that piece.

Today I got 2 32"x38" sheets of foamcore, 5 sheets of matboard nearly the same size, plus some random scraps of matboard all for $12.

And between 25-50 assorted xacto blades for $5.

hopefully, some day I will find something good. I am still striking out.

I stopped by that same garage sale later that day with a friend, and the seller gave me another full sized sheet of foamboard and mattboard for free. She'd been using them as signs for the garage sale so there was writing on them an 2 pencil sized holes at the top and bottom, but thats no problem for my use.

I actually don't have all that great luck with garage sales. What I have is several relatives who go looking for the sales every weekend they have off. They do 40 or so sales a day and just call my cell when they spot something I'd want. I do hear that its helpful to check crag's list for sales. They give you directions, sometimes the hours (go early for electronics), and sometimes even a list of what there selling.
