Thats why I got out of CCGs, It seemed like local gaming stores were either hosting dacare for grade schoolers, or guys who were way too serious.

So yes that seems to be the way it is going.

Maybe that timeslot was reserved for tournament play?

I don't know. I don't play CCG. But it might be something to talk to the store about to get some clarification.

It's where their money is at -CCG, they most likely made more that night then the whole of the weeks takings.

Sorry to hear about that. It is a shame that CCGs are going in that direction, but not too surprising. I just hope miniatures gaming doesn't follow.

I have a bunch of cards from various CCGs that I have picked up from cons or just out of curiosity in the past. I need to offload them on ebay at some point. What games are you playing?

Currently playing Magic (of course) EVE (you might like this one...playable right out of the starter *gasp), Universal Fighting System, World of Warcraft, but also have and would like more Highlander, Doom Trooper, Jyhad/Vampire, and Rage.

Well, I have been in contact with some other local card players so hopefully we can get something NOT overly competitive going. If any of our meetup group ever want to try something different, I'd be glad to bring enough cards for everyone...assuming I have enough of whatever game it is.

I've gotten my daughter somewhat into Neopets ... but she views it as just another game, not as a collectible game or a competitive/tournament game (thank goodness). She's started hassling me about buying her magic cards (they plat at school and daycare). I can't decide whether to happy or unhappy about that development.

I really enjoyed the original MTG computer game, but never really got into the actual card game itself. Nothing wrong with it, but I knew a number of people who would save up to buy a great card for lots of cash of ebay, all to build their ultimate deck. I almost prefer it when you get a random deck and have to figure out what to do with it.

Switching from CCGs a minute to other collectable games... I really did enjoy the launch tournament for Dreamblade. You got one starter pack and one booster for your entry fee. Then you recorded all the products in the set. Surprisingly, you then swapped figure and record sheets with the person opposite you. It kept things on a much more even playing field... and I won more than I lost even though I'd never played it beyond the demo.

Anyone else tried Dreamblade?

I'm a big fan of sealed events over constructed events. Its more fun, and I think more challenging overall. Thats almost all I play anymore for D&D Minis, when I play at all. Heck, in DDM, I'm the #1 limited player in Texas, and #25 in the US.

I bought the box set with the Star Destroyer (couldn't resist) and so far only two booster packs, but I've been happy with what I got in them, mostly. I do wish they would theme them so you could play either original trilogy or prequels. It's annoying getting a card of each setting in each pack.

I really like how the shuttles look (got Darth Vader's version in the box set) and the droid ships are great. I was disappointed by Tantive IV though.

Oh, and in terms of cards, I got both Yoda and Chewbacca (both rares) so not doing too badly so far.

I've only got a couple sample packs for the star wars and 1 booster pack. I picked them up mainly to see how good the minis were and how they went together. But no one in my group wanted to buy their own packs to play. So we switched to Pirates.

So I've never even played the starwars game.

The 1 pack I bought was almost identical to what you got in pack 2. Except I got a Lamba class shuttle instead of the Tantive IV.

I had considered buying the box set with the star destroyer as a starter pack. But I was disapointed with the size of the star destroyer. And ended buying one of the Pirates boxes instead.

Which was a good enough starter set that we jumped into that game.

I haven't played the Starwars Pocket model game yet either, but it sound like fun. I had originally picked up one booster just to check it out, and liked the models enough to get more.

The box set is well worth it as even though the Star Destroyer isn't fantastic, you also get 4x TIE fighter, 2x X-Wings, and Darth Vader's Shuttle. You also get a whole stack of cards, including, strangely enough, 3 of the same rare card.

My wife loves the pirate ships, but we never really got into the game, so she now just collects the models.

I have 2 of the sample packs. Each of which have 1 x-wng and 2 tie fighters. Which with my booster pack gives me almost that exact fleet minus the star destroyer.

And thats why I went with pirates. 8 ships in that Star Wars box for $15. 4 of which are the smallest class. Or 7 ships in the Pirates for $10 or 10 ships for $15 if you buy the tin, which has that tin too.
