Carbon credits are a great idea.
The only trouble is that the ones who can really stand to benefit from them directly are the large corporates, while us individuals are only going to see our bills rise and rise and rise.

They are the same as envirocredits. Large corporations, oh say like Boeing, which naturally creates pollutants can off set environmental charges by the EPA by offering things like Carpooling benefits to their employees.

I get $300 bucks a month for not driving to work. That is Freakin' Awesome. But my company doesn't produce pollutants, they offer that so the directors, and execs can have parking spaces since there's not a lot of parking.

So the folks who ran nuclear powered electricity out of existence in the US, (but fully support nuclear plant sprawl in N. korea, Iran and anywhere else so long as they keep to their "Death to America" platform), have to pay "credits" for the pollution caused by all the coal and fossil fuel that is used in stead??? That would be the same people that invented this scheme,?????

I'll bet my life this originated from some "World Human Festival or the Kato summit"?

It seems though, that the only calculable credits would be from...free market American corporations, right? Who does Norinco (the largest manufacturer on the planet (last time I checked) pay and how?)



This isn't real, correct? Its like saying I'm giving "happy credits" to cover anytimes I annoyed someone, and therefore I can annoy at will, cause I am part of the Happy Solution??? I know you got that carpool tax credit induced whirlwind, but this seems like some "armband" movement! If its recognized, I could extort every US employer their is!

What I think is so funny about Mr. Smokeyrones rants are, there are businesses out there that will dump toxic waste in a river where children play just because they don't want to do the right thing and dispose of it where it won't hurt people.

When I was working at the textile mill as a grounds keeper, working my way through college, I was told to put a firehouse in the creek where it entered the Mill property because the "inspectors" were coming to check the water content of the creek to make sure the mill wasn't polluting "too much". Of course the Mill was, and one of the managers had a wife that worked in the office of EPA, on purpose. So when the inspectors came out, the water was diluted enough to pass, then I was told to turn off the firehouse put it away.

I met one of the inspectors one day in line at the Golden Arches and told him all about what was going on. Thank god he too didn't follow the rules and did a "surpise" inspection. Mill was fined $100k (lots of money back in the 70's). He didn't file where he got his info (which supidely is required) but was able to prove the mill was polluting.

I laugh now knowing that the mill, when it closed, is a toxic site and the land can't be used for anything until it's cleaned up.

Just wanted to drop a quick comment into here regarding one of the topics being discussed.

A lot of argument has come from the fact that USA refused to sign the Kyoto Proticol to reduce emissions, and believing that it stems from not caring/wanting to do anything.

As I understand it (I don't claim to be all-knowing here), the rationalle why USA rejected the proticol is that it placed the ENTIRE burden on the first-world nations. USA had asked that there be standards and requirements that developing/third world countries would have to abide by, they refused, so we refused to sign onto it.

It would make a HUGE difference if we changed our ways and drastically cut back on our polluting. What scares me, though, is that even if USA completely cleaned up its act...if by 2010 we were a solar/hydrogen country with 0 emissions...we'd still have all the problems coming down the line because the rest of the world, or at least several extremely populated portions thereof, doesn't care to follow suit.

I'm not ranting anymore (I do think we should move NATO to Poland, they never whine about the US, and we (meaning you too, unless you were a nuetral or the bad guys) gladly sold them out to Russia, twice!) I am pretty sure they are thrilled to have NATO and the US on their side! At least every Pole I know seems to like us and me.
(one likes me a lot, If ya know what I mean. A "funky walker, and dirty talker" has universal appeal with the weeman!!!:D )

Plus I like how countries throw fits about it! Say Chancellor, why so nervous about NATO in Poland? YOUR in NATO, what are you worried about? Haven't you always been nice to the Poles? (ha ha!)
