Hey folks. I've been thinking; I really want a painted army, but with all my other hobbies, when I wargame, I just want to play. Not really into the whole painting thing right now. I was looking online at some services and found some that are incredibly low priced with good paint jobs. One is and the other is . Both have about equivalent paint jobs, however, Fernando is half the price. Does anyone have experience with either these or others or have suggestions? Thanks!

<edit>Looking at them a bit more, the ones by PaintedFigs actually have more detail at the equal price-point. Fernandos cheapies look...cheap.

I don't have experience with them, but I am curious about the costs of such services. I have always assumed they would be way too expensive.

I know that Bruenor here on the forums offers painting services as well... though he hasn't mentioned price... perhaps he'll give a WWG Addict discount?

EDIT: Since it doesn't conflict with WWG product sales in any way, could you provide links to the services you mentioned?

Edited original post to include links. For the good, flocked models is about $3 for stock units and anywhere from $5-$15 for intricate character work. Not too shabby, really. I have yet to look at Bruenors work though...I totally forgot.

I'm tempted to offer my services because I'm in need of money :/ Only problem is the time involvement in school is starting to ramp up as the semester wages on so I have no idea if I'd even have to time to do so.

Pricewise everything depends on how much detail you want on each mini, rank and file troops are cheap as chips, but have a basic table top quality paintjob, with a couple of neat layered highlights as opposed to characters who have blended highlights and multiple highlights, with freehand decorations to your specs'.
Pricing generally is quite hard coz each job is different, and has diffrent needs for each customer.

Heheh...sorry, PM replied. Also, these guys are real pros. They will send pics of the figures for your approval before shipment and before full payment. The reviews I've found for them were very positive as well. I have high hopes for them! Even if their paint jobs are just a step above HeroScape (and flocked), I'll be perfectly happy.

Allright, here is the first pic they sent. My only concerns were the buggy eyes and lack of shading in the mouths of the beasties.

Hmmm...not sure I like the green background they used to shoot the picture with. Wouldn't that tend to change the way you see the colours?

Then again, what do I know. I am not a professional mini painter.

Well, those are the preview pics so I can make comments before final touches. I really think the green background is making things look worse. Of course, the total paintjob was $13, so I'm really not sure how much to expect. What would you charge for a similar service, Bruenor?

Well I suppose for $13 that's about what you an expect, but for the same price I would have done a much better job, but that's just my pride in my work getting the better of my financial side.

I'm in the process of painting all the miniatures from the old Heroquest game, and I charged the guy about £3-4, per mini depending on the complexity of the paint job needed, here's some examples of the work done:







Now I don't claim to be the best painter in the world, but I do know my way around a brush, and I do know that you really do get what you pay for, so you need to be careful when entering into a commission contract, let them know exactly what you want/need before they start.

I'd say that yours is fairly exceptional work (a far cry above what I can do). For me, this is a good option, even if the quality isn't all that high, simply because I don't have the time or ability to do it better. Of course, I might just consider sending some character work your way, but for rank and file troops, I think paintedfigs.com does a fair job. <edit>I also went into Photoshop to try and fix things up and the auto levels take out the green glare nicely and it DOES look much better.

That sounds great for you, I didn't realise they were rank and file, after seeing the Hunter, I thought he was a character, but the main thing is you are happy with them, and at the end of the day that is all that matters.
I think for me it's the buggy eyes that just don't do it for me, that's what I'd have asked them to change.

Those pics I've posted are a example of you get what you pay for, this is my almost top standard at the moment, although even after painting for many years I'm still learning every time I paint something new.

The old friend I am painting for is into fantasy dwarves and Napoleonic British troops right now, so he asked me to paint a 30-figure historical Foot Guards unit, and a Dwarf unit painted in the same basic British scarlet jacket and gray pants. Going to be a pretty strange looking unit for the Warhammer battlefield, but I think it's going to come out nice.
