I'm sorry, but am I the only one that absolutely HATES the retro style of GOMC1? I think it looks SOOOO stupid. I guess you guys grew up on Judge Dredd, but man...

PS. Don't take this as trolling, I was just wondering if there is anyone else out there that doesn't like it's style, or if I'm just stupid.

Three things:

#1 - I know of ONE copy left of the printed supplement book, and it's even on sale: It can be found

But it's cool news that Mongoose is now selling it as a pdf.

#2 - I know absolutely nothing about the Judge Dredd universe. Never read a comic or a book or anything. Saw the movie, that's my only exposure. However, what do you mean by "retro"? When I think retro I think "pulp" as in rocketmen with jet packs and laser pistols. Flash Gordon style architecture. GOMC1 doesn't strike me as retro, simply alternate universe. Gangs are still armed with bats and clubs (of course, you can have ape gangs and robot gangs, that's the sci-fi aspects).

#3 - I picked up GOMC1 (and the supplement, and the robot gang boxes all at 40% off) for Christmas. I've never played it but would like to. As for organizing a get-together ... we'd need a place, a date and time, and the game plus minis. Does the game handle multiple players well? I played LOADS of Necromunda back in the day and it was really designed for two gangs to face off. Does GOMC1 work fine with 3 or 4 gangs, or perhaps teams of gangs?

With just four of us, and only CCotD and myself having experience playing GOMC1, I would personally like to suggest the following if we manage to set it up:

1) GOMC1 - Round 1 (Standard 2 gang fight scenario)
CCotd vs. Kane or SeattleGamer
Me vs. Kane or SeattleGamer
- After fight purchases etc.

2) GOMC1 - Round 2 (Standard 2 gang fight scenario)
Winner vs. winner
Loser vs. loser
- After fight purchases etc.

3) GOMC1 - Round 3 (Block War!)
To finish things up, we have an all out block war with all of us playing in one game. It'll be mayhem, we'll all die, but we'll have smiles on our faces.

I do want to try other games, but I've love to try a themed day first and see how we all get on. If the meetup goes well, we could try to set something up regularly... monthly or something... and play a variety of games... like having a campain running of GOMC1 where we play a single scenario each, then maybe some Rezolution, or some ATZ...

If we get more people, even better, but with four we'd have a great beginning for a WWG Seattle Gaming Meet

I guess we should start picking dates (list at least 4 Saturdays or Sundays) and we can come up with a consensus on which one works. Then maybe we can work it out where we meet 1 a month or every other month.

Oh, if someone doesn't like Built In Gamers, they probably should not participate, my guys get into it pretty heavy, but only if they like the system. Their friend Jeph would probably want to play too. He's more mature that I am (which is scary for a 12 year old) and then there are some of their other friends that would probably want to play but I think they are more role-players than war gamers. And if someone has Built In Gamers, and they can act responsible then they are welcome too. Nothing more fun than getting your a$$ handed to you by someone 1/10 your age.

Arabin ... are you talking three games in one day? Are the first two games happening on separate tables simultaneously? How long does a game take, figuring two of us are new (one in each game) and there may be rules to explain, etc. Sounds like I'll need to free up a whole day.

It's been a while since I negotiated an all-day away but it's not out of the realm of the possible. Takes advanced planning, and earning some brownie points from She Who Must Be Obeyed.

Also means I better read the rules and start painting up a gang! Are robot gangs going to be allowed (I assume so if you are using apes and they both come from the same supplement). But I thought I'd ask.

Before that though, I'll respond to the other points.

CCotD, I didn't realise you'd have a bunch of people there already. That's cool, but my plan wouldn't really work out with more people. Maybe we run a quick demo game for all the watch, then create gangs and play single fight or something.

Seattlegamer, I was talking about three games in one day... which isn't all that unreasonable for GOMC1. One of the things I love about the game is it can be pretty fast paced. I used to run demos of the game and they would take anywhere from 20 minutes to an hour, depending on the interest from the player, and the number of questions they asked. Each game probably takes an hour or so... but that's flexible depending on what happens.

For example, WtF (will to fight) can be a serious pain in the rear. Let's say that you have a 6 man gang, all travelling close together, one guy gets killed right in front of your Top Dog. You roll WtF and two gangers and your Top Dog all run away... now because your Top Dog has left the field, another WtF roll... another one gun runs leaving you with only 1 guy left. Since the gang is now down to a quarter of it's size, you roll... and get a 1. Just like that, your 6 man gang is out of play. It doesn't happen often, but bad rolling can end a game really quickly.

For planning the actual day, I'm guessing we should plan for April, to give us all time to read rules, paint minis, assemble any terrain we want to bring, etc. I'm thinking a Saturday is best for me, and off the top of my head, I believe that April is mostly clear except for the last weekend when I'll probably be working.

CCotD, what sort of times work best for you? Start around 10am maybe?

Oops, I just remembered something else... Seattlegamer asked about using a robot gang. It's fine to do so, but I have a couple of suggestions. For the demo game/s to learn the rules, I strongly recommend we just use small 4 man gang (technically against the rules but it's a demo) and just use humans. You will pick up the game faster that way.

A robot gang is very cool, and if you survice, you can get to be really powerful since all you need is a good cash flow and you can buy all your upgrades (traits) as well as new members. Unfortunately, it's really hard to get started as a robot gang, because you don't get a free replacement for a juve that dies, nor do you get the chance of traits at the end of a game. You have to save your money.

Arabin....do your models get characteristics increases after each game..You know like Mordheim or D & D?

I know that some people hate different sized minis, but I'm wondering if it'll be a problem for non-humans? My ape gang is made up of some short chimps and some rather larger gorillas. It's not a problem for me, because silverbacks can get huge in the real world, but I hope it's okay with you guys.

Also, I'd feel the same way about robots. You wouldn't want a 5 inch high robot as it would be impractical, but a 35mm robot as a Heavy Robot should be fine IMO.

Any thoughts?

I picked up the two blisters of official GOMC1 robots about 6 months ago, just because I wanted to pick up some robot minis for "future" sci-fi gaming. I also picked up the robo-dog and doc blister just because they were robots. And the Paranoia robot boxed set too. I would suspect that all of those minis are "properly" scaled for GOMC1.

I'm not a scale nazi when it comes to playing. I'm more of a stickler when it comes to buying my own if for no other reason that it helps limit my options (and my wallet thanks me).

So I don't purchase, say, 32mm zombie figures to mix with my 28mm figures. But if we were getting together to play a zombie game and I was bringing mine and you were bringing your's, I wouldn't care one bit that some were figure flats, others were 25mm (from the Twilight Zombies game), some were 28mm (Cold War and Copplestone) and still others were 32mm (Fortress Figures).

I don't have any problems with your ape gang, as long as they die horrible deaths at the hands of my misunderstood robots

That's good to hear about the size issue. I can understand limiting your options, and I do the same, except when it comes to apes or pre-painted minis... where I sometimes allow the size difference due to ease of purchase. I have all of the zombie minis from Horrorclix now (I think) and will look forward to getting a game of ATZ in sometime.

I picked up all the same robots as you, but haven't got around to painting them yet. I only ran a robot gang briefly testing them out and they did pretty well... only just defeating the Undercity Gang I had them fighting. Most of the gang was pretty poor... running away at the slightest sound... but the heavy robot refused to go down and destroyed almost all of the other gang on his own!

Of course, when I ran an ape gang in testing against the Undercity Gang... the apes won a massive victory, not taking any damage, nor having of the apes leave the fight. I doubt that'll happen again, but it was fun.

I finished painting a couple more apes today (no photos yet) and they are looking like a mean bunch. I'm not too happy how my Top Dog came out, but I was limited on paints due to leaving them untouched for too long. Oh well, at least he isn't shiny silver anymore.

I have vast quantities of unpainted metal figures. I will be reading up on the rules (and the supplement) to get a feel for the game, and then must dive in and paint something before the big day. I may go with robots, or perhaps just a regular gang. Winning/losing isn't important, especially for a "first game" where it's all about learning the rules anyway.

As for other scales, I too picked up most of the clix zombies (3 of each in fact). But ... my intent is to do a little work on each, trimming a few mm from their legs/height and long arms to bring them into 28mm size. But that's a bunch of work, so I've been using cardstock zombies for my games

One of the additional rules from the expansion book deals with adding in rackets. It's something I've not bothered with before.

For the first game, it's just playing around, but if we get a campaign going we'll have to decide if we want to include rules like that one.

You are far more adventurous that I am when it comes to modding minis. It sounds like a good idea to shorten the legs and arms, but I'll leave mine alone other than rebasing. The time I'll save can be used to paint other minis or build more terrain
