As the title said my CWU build is still in it's WIP stage, many more pieces to add like building the rear of it upto a third level.

Now I know most of you will gasp in horror when I tell you that after these pics were taken, (in the pics all the pieces are still moveable), I have glued all the wall sections in place, as I have the design I was looking for and apart from things like height, and building levels I didn't want to change the layout.
One thing I can tell you is that it is SOLID, with nowt moving about.

The main reason I have gone for a static build, as opposed to a modular one, is apart from I have the space to store it, is that I have many many quests/adventures planned around a castle/keep, and didn't want to have to remember how I built it each time we played.

Will post more pics as I get more done, I like to think of it as Frank's Castle's little offspring, as his Castle really inspired me to get off me ass and get mine built.

The towers will be three high, and the main building will be three high, with the back walls conecting them, and stairs going upto the third level of each tower from the castle side walls, and I plan to add anothe two level stone building joined to the main building, plus flesh it out with some of those VW buildings I've been doing.

So there you have the reason I haven't sorted out anymore of those VW interiors yet.............

I had a long think about whether or not to go with the static build and came to the conclusion that the main apart from not wanting to build and rebuild all the time, is that all my gamers come to my house to play, as I have all the pieces and boards, as they only play, nothing else, and a big deciding factor was that I have a large enough space free to accomodate it once built, otherwise it would have been completely modular like yours.

The build has taken longer than I thought originally, but apart from the boring repeating builds of the walls, I've ahd loads of fun so far.

On a plus side I have changed my printer from a Lexmark all in one, (bloody ink guzzlers), to a Canon iP1600, and have been able to print soooooo much more from one ink cart.

Nice looking castle you have there! Don't worry about building static models, I've done a couple myself. Mostly because I've got adventures that take place in either the same location, or in a couple of keeps that are built basically the same and as you say, it's easier to build it that way then try and assemble it each time the adventure takes place there!

Looking forward to viewing more progress of the build. Oh and I like your work area too!

I'm working on it as we speak, adding the second hoarding, and catwalk, I have one tower complete, with stairs leading to it from the ramparts, and need to do two more levels for the second tower.
Not sure if I have enough ink for the other parts I need, and with payday 2 weeks away, I may have to wait for another cartridge.

Will try to get some more pics for you tonight.

Looking good Bruenor. Seeing builds like this makes me really want to build a castle... but not only do I have nowhere to put it, but I don't have a game to play on it either. I'll just keep drooling while looking at builds like your and Frank's.

BTW, I noticed Dungeon Siege 2 box hiding behind the tower Was that used for inspiration?

Can I make a couple of suggestions. Firstly (and this is entirely personal aesthetics), I found the catwalk peices on the tops of the castle walls a little jarring, so glued a 1" walltop on top of the whole shebang to give my walltops a uniform look. Yours look great though, so don't fell obliged. Secondly, the ladders look a LOT cooler with the black bits cut out. Nowhere near as sturdy mind (and it is fiddly), but I thought the end result warranted the effort.

Finally, the photos are very good as well.

I don't mind the catwalks, I kinda think it adds a little character to the wall tops, the only thing I have done is glue a 1" piece of walkway into the gap left to bring it up level with the walkway.

The only thing I'm disappointed in is the lack of 1" wall tops for the corner pieces, will have to count these as 3 squares when moving.

Have now built the second tower to match the first, being 3 levels and stairs leading upto it.

Plus added the ground floor of my second building, just need to get those new ink carts before I can go any higher/further.

Well it's nearly finished, just some minor nicknacky bits to add, like interior stuff, and some more ladders and flags.

Lot of work, especially using some of the VW buildings, having to make the interiors, but well worth it in the long run, there's 14 areas for the players to go into, one being a portal only entrance, the top of the plaster building as that's my main Necromancer's workshop and cannot be entered by coventional means.

Anyway enough ramble your here to see the pictures, right?
