Congrats on the purchase.

I'm luvvin' SW, finding it the simplest and free-flowing system out there. We've had a few superb games with almost fanatical response and feedback from the players (reports and links can be found on the User PIctures section).

The only setting I have at the moment is "Necropolis" and I am feverishly building terrain to run this game. Its gonna be a definite hit.......... Sci-Fi vs Undead, how can it go wrong.

Not sure if I'm gonna get "50 Fathoms"........... will probably getting "Necessary Evil", "Tour of Darkness" and "Rippers" first.

Most problem you might have is from missing a line of text in teh rulebook and then not getting the whole picture - The game is not hard, the rulebooks is just very well written without padding.

You should grab the Toolkits of the genre of your choice. These are great, their not needed at the least but have got a lot of ground work you (the GM) might do in order to shape your world.


Rippers is great to say the least - Buffy meets League of Ex Gentlemen with a very Savage twist.

50 Fathoms is one of the few titles I haven't touched as the whole Pirate thigh never has taken my fancy. Still I might get this for a Sci-Fi Setting conversion.... could be fun.

I got the players guide to Necessary Evil just for the Super rules additions so I could do some great Showdowns

I read bad the post I belive you said that you had the 50fathoms and where asking if there was something more (I was sleept in my defense)...
Well the setting is about a world flown (nearly all is water) with "fantasy" creatures and a civilization than resemble the typical pirates era...The twist is that you can make one or two adventure runing in the "real" word and then you get "sucked" into the 50th fathom setting...and can do whatever you want - comerce/piracy ... the background adventure (or the main plot point) is to get rid of the Hacks (witches that made the flow...). I've read it a bit and seems funny and a lot of feel for adventure (a la 7th sea - another great pirate game for my taste - not real pirate but the hollywood pirate feeling)... It's the best setting of SW ??...hard to say... It depends on the preference of your group... the other settings have been more or less explained above so you chose (I've only ruled by now Evernight and is a good idea with some poor editing and a few mistake here and there...but it was the first one and nothing that can't be solved)...If you want more information and I can give only ask it...

50 Fathoms is a very good fantasy pirate setting. It really cemented the whole Plot Point campaign concept and there's enough meat in that book to run 50 Fathoms for years. Its tone is very much along the lines of the Pirates of the Caribbean movies.
There is a 50 Fathoms companion that might be worth looking into if you enjoy the setting. It has new everything; edges, hindrances, gear, setting rules, expanded gazetteer, a new Plot Point campaign, small bestiary, and figure flats.

Rippers is my favorite, I think. Its pulp Victorian Horror. Lots of fun if your group is into it. Think League of Extraordinary Gentlemen meets the Universal Monsters.
There is a companion coming for this as well, but there is no concrete date on it yet.

If you want to run your own thing then I can't recommend the Toolkits enough. They're fantastic. Nuff said!

I have the 50 Fathoms book and PDF companion, and they're both good. Good enough that my wife (who is always a player) is seriously considering running her own 50F game. The setting captures the pulp pirate feel perfectly.

One thing I picked up was some random Pirates of the Spanish Main ships to put on my sea masterboard for larger scale ship battles.

I have because, well, it's got Zombie in the title. I have yet to play SW, I bought it as a download because of all the good comments here on the WWG forums. Finally broke down to get that and Zombie Run, but like I said, have yet to give it a try.

The ZR supplement is excellent. It's only 43 pages (not bad for $8) but gives a nice background to what the hell happened, and adds new Edges and Gear, rules for Scavaging the post-apocalypse world, a complete 8-part adventure (with maps of towns and buildings where needed), even comes with 7 different cardstock zombies.

I've been very tempted to get the Necropolis supplement because, as was said, Sci-fi versus Undead, how can that go wrong?

Also picked up and the sequal . Both are modern day "something has gone wrong" and the military are sent in to figure it out situations (dealing with, you guessed it, zombies). Both are over 100 pages each, and well worth the money.

I dont do alot of zombies but the Shadowrun astral quest scenario i jsut ran had a city full of skinned folks. Kinda moved zombie like, i attribute it to the pain...

oh and the puppet master so to speak that fed off their pain and made a skin suit out of their faces.

Dang, we seem to share the same collection!!!

After getting the SW rulebook, I went back a few days later and bought "Zombie Run", "Weekend Warriors", "Innana's Kiss", and "Bloodlines"............ (12toMidnight had a sale on at the time ). Need to get the "Fire in the Hole" adventure at some point as well.

I highly recommend the 12toMidnight stuff. Very good adventures, well written and laid out. You also get a lot for your money.

Recently I took the plunge even further and got my first setting, "Necropolis", as well as the miniatures based "Modern Ops" which is an excellent product and adds even more modern weaponry and vehicles to play around with.


The thing that has put me off "50 Fathoms"......... and it seems very popular, very very popular............ is the octopus creatures. Just don't like them. Would rather have a more realistic Pirates setting, which would then justify the purchase of the Maiden kit

I did a search in RPGNow but must have fat-fingered the title because I got no hits, so I was wondering who did it (assumed it was an add-on by somebody else, yet got no hits on 12toMidnight site either).

I'll be getting the "Necropolis Players Guide" fairly soon I think, so I can print copies for the players before the games. Don't like just buying one item though, so currently thinking what to add to the order............ hmmmmm

Well, my SW games are based on Miniatures at the moment (not pure RPGs so to speak) so my choice of settings and games depends very much on my miniature and terrain collection (hence my hesitation to get "Necessary Evil", "Rippers" and the like at the moment).

I like the sound of "Red Rising" though.

N-Evil is great for Showdowns! You get to smack and bash villains into and through buildings. Just pick up the players guide. Think about Mayhem Rail and super strenght.

As for Rippers I would almost pick up the game itself but you can get the stat cards for all the minis off the site. Grab the main book and see how you can use CWU, GR, VW etc. Anything fantasy WWG wise can be used as Rippers.

When TwitchVille comes out it will become Rippers Paradise!

I too use SW mainly for TableTop Action, role playing only goes so far - lead goes further.
