Hi been out the loop with WWG for a while (new baby and stuff)

These coins are great but I wondered if it would be possible to do specific coins for campaigns like the Forgotten Realms?

The Realms details a number of specific coinage (around 30 different types) in the Forgotten Realms Campaign Setting Book. and it would be awesome to see these produced.

I'm currently considering using the coins you have produced for Ancient Realmsian Coins from long dead civilisations but to have modern coinage presented would be a great asset!

I think there might be licensing issues with trying to do this with the FR campaign setting. I am sure that WOC would want to pocket any and all money from such a release.

Hard to say if there would be licensing issues or not. I certainly wouldn't take a chance without consulting with them first. It may be okay due to their OGL. So coming along and adding something that builds upon the existing framework should be fine.

But if the coins were ever shown in ANY artwork, I would expect that WWG couldn't use any of that in their coin designs.

I've had a bitch of a time contacting anyone at WOTC regarding anything over the past year. In fact, I just made another attempt recently and I was unable to get anywhere substantial. Part of their public filtering makes it very difficult to contact any of the "higher ups" regarding development of any kind. Contacting them for distro information is easy but anything to do with dev and you're pretty much screwed. One can only assume that they have been hammered with solicitation by amateur publishers in the past and as a result it makes even legitimate developmental relationships very hard to establish.

There are many products I would like to co-develop with WOTC but getting through to a meaningful contact has thus far proven impossible. This is the blanket answer I received from their customer service rep:

"We do not review unsolicited game ideas, return submissions, or make comments on submissions send to us. Most of our games come from our internal R&D department, or are specifically solicited by R&D."

The above reply had little to do with what I was asking for unfortunately, namely a receptive ear to talk about possible developmental partnerships.

I have put this call out before but if any of you know the contact information for one of the developers or "higher-ups" at WOTC please give me a private message or an e-mail denunger@worldworksgames.com . I would love to discuss the possibilities with the folks at WOTC but I need receptive ears.

Hey Denny ... I know a guy who knows a gal who works there in some sort of managerial capacity. Not sure in which department or even if she's still there, but I'll check with my buddy and see if I can't shake a contact loose for you. If I can, I'll PM you the info.

There are a few benefits to living in the Puget Sound area. People tend to meet folks who work at places like WotC / Hasbro and Microsoft.

I understand their point behind what they're doing as far as restricting outside contact as far new products are concerned, but they also keep very talented people out of the picture by doing things like that. Heck, Denny, you've already got a business going, that if you developed something in partnership with them, would allow you to actually publish it on their end, but unfortunately, I'm sure they've also tried to develope stuff with outside individuals and not had good experiences with that same development.

Hope you get through to them, I think both you and they would benefit from any such partnerships.

I'm currently developing a sci-fi board game, and this is exactly what I need for my credits. Using various sizes of foam shapes gets boring and confusing very quickly, and now I don't have to come up with a design until I'm ready for the final prototype.

I'd also use this in my Warhammer RP campaign, but I have no idea when that'll start up again. Life is getting in the way of pretty much all of my hobbies at the moment.

Hmmm, you might have an easier time contacting Paizo, the publishers of Dungeon and Dragon magazines - they do have a procedure in place for unsolicited manuscripts.

FWIW, Forgotten Realms is most definitely NOT part of the SRD or OGL. It is a 100% proprietary IP.

Heh, all the paper ideas are nice, but for me, I will resize as necessary to fit some metal washers in various sizes from the hardware store and maybe a few types on actual coins too (pennies, nickels and dimes)...bits will have to be different, but oh, well.

Way better than fender washers because there's no hole of any sort in the center. And these are about the thickness of a fender washer, or perhaps just a tiny bit thinner. He makes lots of different sizes too.

I thought about using these because they are flat (unlike an actual coin with the image) thus figuring the glue would hole them better. But they would only be good for the round coins, and most of the coins in the set are different shapes.

Worth a look though.

Heh, good plan there for the rounds, but then even the cheapest bag of those is 15 cents each plus shipping and my plan is 10 cents or less each, with normal coins...haven't checked washer prices lately, still have a pile left though. A neat thing about washers is besides various diameters there are also various thicknesses, lots of variety for the round coins.
