Okay, this is a quick layout of the first few tiles in what I hope will become a 5x5 tile industrial layout for use with Gangs of Mega-City One.

So far, I have used only PCON for this, and I have made a few modifications.

The way I did it was to cut off the white tab from the half that would be inside, then trim off about 2mm more. When ready, I'd slap glue on one side of the vat and glue both sides of the tab. Glueing both of the inside sides should work better as you suggest.

Cutting the tower in half will work for quickly creating two vats, though they will be shorter unless you fold over the top to create the lip inside... though you might get away with just putting a hazard strip over the inside.

The main reason I did it the way I did is for reusability. I can easily have empty vats, slime vats, molten metal vats, or a combination... all with no extra work needed.

I had thought about doing 6 vats to a tile, but it isn't a perfect 2 inches wide all the way up, which cause problems for spacing. I might make shorter ones for that... though I'd have to be careful to make sure the textures look okay.

I'm glad that my idea is inspiring you though. PCON has so many possibilities...

A joining strip is like two tabs that are butted along the long side. When you cut a tab off you have what is basically an . Draw around the perimeter then turn the tab around and align the long side on the long side of the shape you just drew and draw around the perimeter again. The resulting shape is the joining strip. Glue half of the joining strip to the backside of the rectangular piece that will form the cylinder so it looks like the tab is there. Roll the cylinder then glue the other half of the joining strip, butting the ends of the rectangle, forming the cylinder.

That is a good technique when forming cylinders where the interior will not be seen. Since the vats you are making have both the outside and inside visible you might try cutting off the tabs then glueing the inside of the vat to the outside of the vat but offset a bit. Then apply glue to one of the "tabs" formed, butting the outside skin and the inside skin of the vat together. If the outside texture and the inside texture have patterns that need to line up, offset the two pieces enough so that when the cylinder is closed the patterns will line up. The "tabs" then might be somewhat larger.

Ok, I understand now. It would make more sense to cut the inside and outside apart and glue them in seperately, which combined with using the joining strip, would create a really good model. Oh well, something to consider for next time.

For an inside out job like the vats, you wouldn't even need a joining strip, just align the inside about an inch off to the left or right (trimming about half a millimeter off the inside part to ensure a good fit) then just overlap the edges. Voila!

As we've been playing our online Firefly game, I built another vat. Doing the cylinder as two pieces (one inside, one outside) was definitely much easier, and looks better than my first one, too.
