The HarbourMaster -- My First Documented Build

Ok..so...I started working on the HarbourMaster this evening...I printed out all of the core pages that are needed for the build. I would have printed out all the props, but I started getting the olde 'Your cartridge is running out of ink' message.

I also created the foamcore floors from the templates that were provided by Paul after the initial release (thanks Paul).

So now I have to decide if I am going to do a simple/easy build without the transparencies, or what level of 'hog wildness' I am going to shoot for. I believe I will have to drop off at my local Office Supply store and pick up a sheet of Transparency film so I can at least have the transparency based windows available. I have found from experience thought that it takes the ink about 3 days to dry enough to safely handle. I'd be curious to hear of others experiences with the dry-time.

I have taken a few shots of my workspace this evening showing my work surface and the the mis-en-place that I have completed this evening. All I have to do now is to find the durn cable so I can upload the pictures!

It is my intention to take a few snaps of the build each day as I build this model so that I can show off all my mistakes :-)

Thanks for the information on the Transparencies. I have been purchasing them by the sheet from my neighbourhood Office Max, and I think they have been selling me the standard transparency film and NOT ink-jet transparency film. Me thinks heads will roll for their decpetion!

...ok, maybe not...

Right, so I sat down to start cutting out the parts for the first floor last night when with the very first cut of the knife...tragedy...I wound up taking about 1/16" off the tip of my middle finger. Needless to say I did not get much work done, though I did get about 2/3 of the roof tower completed.

So:
Bad News: I sliced a bit of my finger off
Good News: I did not get any blood anywhere so I will not have to do any reprints.

Take a lesson from me kids and ALWAYS be aware of where your fingers are before and during any cuts you make, or you too will be granted the nickname 'Stubby'.

That does look like a nice safe ruler...if safety is a concern for you :lol:

Well tonight, I finished up the tower section for the top of the building...but then Myth Busters came on and I just HAD to watch it! :lol:

One of the things that I really like about this model is all the architectual details like the buttresses here and the dragon

I did get my images uploaded and have attached them.

Tommorrow I plan on at least cutting out all the wall and floor sections. But for now...here is tonight's image.

Nice looking build! I still haven't bought the Harbor Master model yet, might do it tonight. But I've got to say, I like your build so far and I also like the way you're taking the pictures with a reference object. Gives you an idea of how big the piece is.

So I took a pause from finishing up the HarbourMaster and worked on my Maiden build. She is now well over half built and I thought it would be fun to see the HarbourMaster side by side with The Maiden...you know...carry through with the whole nautical theme.
