Long day tomorrow - my brother is visiting, the local bookstore re-opens as a Books-A-Million, and I get to play Pathfinder, following which we pile off to see Three Musketeers.

I have a bad feeling about this. Hopefully the screenwriter has at least read Dumas, but the airships fill me with dread.... Maybe I can convince myself that it is a retelling by Baron Munchhausen....

I guess that I will at least find out if Megan is working at BaM.... I was planning to ask her at the Hallowe'en party, but she, and a bunch of others, cancelled because of the snowstorm.

It is going to be Sunday before we get to see it - we didn't even notice that we had played for an hour past curtain....

It does sound dreadful, I am just hoping for fun dreadful. But then I enjoyed Van Helsing.

Went to BaM with my brother, we ran into Megan, who gave me a big* hug. My brother said something along the lines of 'Dude, still?' He apparently remembers me having a very different adolescence than I remember. He seems to recall me being visited a lot by nerd girls, thin, with glasses, I remember being awkward around guh-guh-guh-girls. I like his memory better, it has more girls. The girls coming over were working with me on things like school plays, school newspapers, etc. not romance.

Megan, meanwhile asked 'who's this?' and I replied 'my younger brother'. She seemed surprised that I was the older of us two. (I have twice as much hair, and don't smoke. My brother has not aged all that well.) All told, I do not think that they much like each other.

I forgot to ask her if she is working at BaM, or if she was just visiting friends who were.

The game was fun, I am enjoying playing a sneaky, manipulative, cerebral paladin. But then Aramis is my favorite of the Musketeers.

* Or as big a hug as a girl who is maybe five foot nothin' can give. First time she has ever hugged me. She actually seems easier with me now that she knows that I am not available. Either that or she is not stressing about her job situation.

Not bad, unless you've read the book.
Or know anything about history.
Or about fencing.
Or about blackpowder weaponry.
Or about aerodynamics.
Or thermodynamics.
Or engineering.
Or anything about anything for that matter....

I didn't know that Bergholt Stuttley Johnson was doing a movie....

The Auld Grump, is it too much to ask for? That someone doing a movie based on a book actually read the damn book?!

All those distractions aside, how was it as a movie?

I gave up assuming that movies would be true to their source material a long time ago. Now I get to be pleasantly surprised when one does (well most of the time - I can still get annoyed with scrappy bastardizations).

Now, Hollywood continual rewriting of history to claim other's achievements as American - that still gets me (not least because far too many Americans' only knowledge of history is what they've seen in movies).

If it were to have been named "Victorian Air Pirates with Comic Book Fights" would it be an entertaining movie? or is it still just too much?
