Here's the 2.5' x 2.5' layout I want to do. I'm using Appleworks on my Mac, since it's super simple to use, and has a snap-to grid. The bits up top represent the various basic building blocks of the DungeonWorks system, as rescaled for MiniChunk. I just copy & paste, and lay them out however seems good.

It's the best option available for me, 'cuz even if CapnG makes a model planner, it'd be based on the CD release of 1.5". Who knows? Maybe he'll find this inspiring, and give it a go after he's done with his SoM building!

Once I'm nearing completion on the SoM gig (still planning right now, research, all that fun stuff) odds the next planner will most likely be for *twitch*, er Himmelveil (damn now you guys have got me doing it!!). Also on that note, since UM will no doubt have a few expansions, it doesn't really make sense for me to make piecemeal planners, the logistics of it start to hurt my brain....

If Denny wants me to create planners for older products at some point I've no objection but for now consider it a "FL and up" prospect.

I love it, but the question is not are you going to remain sane to finish the project but will it be playable?

Will you have the space you need to move minis around with the layout. I know I might sound stupid, for many WWG products are 1" grids, but I was thinking it might be a tight squeese.

I've come to the conclusion that I work rather slow. It seems that way, anyhow. A hard day's progress, and here's what I've got.

14 of the 3" walls and 2 columns, that still need to be glued (though I have edged them):



And a bunch of floor tiles on foamcore that still need to be cut out (for size reference, the white-centered ones on the top are each 3" long (that's the bases I made for the 3" walls, since I have to fold my floor support tabs inward, not outward):



By tomorrow's end, I'll have them all put together, and then I get to feel like I've done something!

This should give me just enough to complete the first mini-layout I posted earlier, because I can use some of the smaller walls to make up for the 3 or so 3" ones I'll still need.

Once I've got that all put together, I'll take some pics with a real camera! I just use the camera phone because it's super quick, I don't have to resize the images, and they're a super small file size. That, and they still get the point across.

Well, better late than never!

I've decided to deck the whole thing out with props and minis before I do the good pics, and now I'm stuck doing a ton of those tiny benches from Castles & Keeps.

Thought you guys might like to see part of the game we played last weekend. I finally talked our DM into using the WW terrain for part of our game: the Temple of the Bear in D&D's Kalamar setting.

The Temple was in the middle of a magically protected glen; the haven of a solitary Celestial Unicorn. As we're playing an all-evil campaign, our goal was to feast on the flesh of the Unicorn. Fun for all!

I didn't have the altar from Skull Cove built yet, so I had to use a bed from DW:Classic. However, no one cared that it was a bed, since the Temple had long since been abandoned, and who knows what's gone on since...

I also took pics with and without flash, since with tends to wash things out, but without tends to be blurry. *sigh* I need a better camera. When I get one, I'm gonna send Grump this one! (It's not the best, but at least it works!)

So it can be said I'm not slacking off in the face of adversity (read: spring cleaning), I've prepped 6 more Pro FeltMasterLinX tiles, and velcroed 3 of them.

Now, I can do stuff over a 1.5' x 1.5' board:



Tomorrow, I hope to finish the velcro on the other 3, and start printing/cutting more walls and floor tiles.

Hold up a moment. I just relaized just how much space I'm saving by going to the 1" grid for the MiniChunk project.

I've done enough of the PFML boards for a 2' x 1.5' layout. So I was thinking: cool. Now I'm close to the size of a full Pro Masterboard. Wait. That's in 1.5" squares... just how does that relate to actual squares of gameplay?

-On a full size Pro Masterboard (1.5" grid), you've got a 20" x 30" space.
--That's 13 squares wide, and 20 long.
---Grand total of 260 squares.

-With my PFML boards, I've got an 18" x 24" space.
--That's 18 squares wide, and 24 long.
---Grand total of 432 squares!

In a far smaller space, I've got 66% more squares! That can really add up to a huge difference in the size of a dungeon layout!

-With PFML boards in an 18" x 30" space (nearly identical to a full sheet of foamcore),
--That's 18 squares wide, and 30 long.
---Grand total of 540 squares!

Good gravy, man. That's over double the squares, in less than the same space.

Oh, and as an added bonus, these things are super easy to store!

Woo-hoo!

But remember, you need a whole lot more of them to fit into that area than the 1.5" stuff!

But I still like the 1" stuff better!

It's been a while since i've done anything on the MiniChunk Project, since I've been quite distracted with my Inn, and minor Skull Cove props.

But, I finally did the Stairs Up today!

Actually, I had the file modded and the sheets printed out a while ago, but I just cut 'em out and built 'em last night.

They're the same height as the normal Chunky D (like everything in MiniChunk, it just looks better that way), but the steps are 1" squares.





Here's a perspective shot with D&D minis. Yeah, I'd run from that Drow, too!
