How can you not love those giant beasties od undead doom? They are awesome! I won't be buying any (maybe some TK spearskellies, but that's about it...)

I prefer a touch more realism in my fantasy, and a trifle more cultural awareness - something plausible, something that the Tomb Kings used to be fairly decent for when they first came out. (Not saying the V word, but you know that it is there.)

The new line is over the top crap. Heck, it is under the shoe and soaked through the knees of your jeans crap. It looks like stuff designed to attract ADD teenagers who shout 'Big and spiky! It's kewl!' Buy their 2,000 pts. of over priced plastic, then lose interest.

If that sort of thing is common in MORPGs then I am rather glad I don't play them - though I will point out that WAR, based on WH, had much more reasonable critters than those pieces of poppycock. (Look up what poppycock means - it's a lot ruder than people think it is.)

I found his message interesting - I have said some of those same things about WotC in regards to 4e. (I'd rather see Pathfinder grow the market, not just take share from WotC.)

And yeah, there is a fair amount of animosity that was generated when GW labeled online retailers as 'Freeloading'. (This was in regards to online retailers in Europe selling to Australia - even with shipping it was less expensive to purchase from Europe.... So GW was money gouging, and got angry because folks actually paid attention to exchange rates?)

And the video doesn't even mention Mantic.... (Who are quite happy to ship to Oz, and put more minis in the boxes when they switch from metal to resin....)

As a miniatures newbie looking at this thread I would have to say that I do like the look of GW's miniatures, although the price is a little disturbing. Those tomb kings are very cool!

In case anyone is wondering why I am doing the desperate counting of forces - I will hopefully be in a 5,000 pt. KoW battle next week.

I expect to see my undead being roundly beaten. (I'd probably do better with dwarfs, but.... ) Sad, given that I am one of the folks running the game.

Observations, compared to Warhammer
I miss Rallying, seeing an entire unit just vanish bothers me.
I miss Panic, even though I think that Warhammer over emphasizes it. (What should be a defense against panicking is instead an invitation to having your entire army rout in Warhammer.)
I miss Fear and Terror.
The game is bleedin' fast! Even without timers.
The results feel a trifle less random than Warhammer 8.
The game really is designed for big armies - the things that I miss in small and medium games might be hinderances in a really big game.

The stuff I have (which you can see in the previous posts) comes to around 1200 pts........ and they are nearly done - oh yeah!!! Only 12 more figures to do........... then I can quickly do the scenic display (WWG) and then move onto the Abyssal Dwarf army I have waiting for me.

One of the silly things about this 5,000 pt debac, err, epic, is that because of the huge size and short notice many of the figures will be proxies, using GW minis....

That just seems so sideways!

300 zombies just don't go that far.... (I saw an army list for about that many Zeds -
5 Zombie Hordes
1 Skeleton Troop
4 Liche Kings

1,500 points....)

It ended up being scaled down to a much more reasonable 1,500 pts.

Doing so allowed three tables to be set up for running games. Still not my cuppa, but it does run very quickly at 1,500 pts. Twelve people got to try out the game, average time less than an hour a game, even though we didn't use the chess timers. (Timers will be used if there are tourneys.)

Dwarfs did better if the deadies came to them - the organ gun is pretty devastating at short range. Deadies worked better on the offensive - cavalry coming in on the flanks while the dwarfen front is engaged.

The odd battle was the one from the magazine - where the dwarfs have the advantage if they can get the King delivered to the tomb, but are pretty outnumbered if they try to handle things in a straight up brawl.

Observations:
Dwarfs don't break easily.
Dwarf mastiffs love playing with skellies and zombies.
Undead seem a trifle under powered - if they did not have cavalry in these tests then they would have lost most games. If the dwarf players focused their missiles on the cavalry then it was all over. (Even the organ gun all by its lonesome was able to put paid to the cavalry in a single good round.)
Some of the Warhammer players really liked it.
Some of the Warhammer players really didn't like it.
Most Warhammer players left with plans to use Mantic figures to bulk out their armies. The owners of the shop could have sold a whole bunch of the boxed sets if they had them to sell.
