In defense of resin - I have a fair number of resin models by many companies that aren't GW, and none of them have melted....

Whoever chose the resin that GW uses needs to run a gauntlet of pool noodles.

I don't like the models, and paying $50 for four models is no different then paying £15 for one.

$50 for 4 models? You mean the battleboxes? That is one dreadnought sized model, two terminator sized and one human sized, though. Its really a matter of metal. The new starter set coming out is a huge step up, though. Right around 20 models for $100 plus rules, templates, dice, etc.

Though Wayland Games was already unhappy with GW, as witnessed in their (polite) . GW managed to have one doozy of a month there....

Woah. Didn't know about that. I would assume that there will be a price limit for miniatures. When the competition starts to offer similiar quality products (that won't melt in the sun and actually have QC) for a fraction of the cost, things will start to look bad for GW. In the 90s and early 00s they had no real cmpetition. Now they have, and what's their response? Instead of competing with prices, they hike them up like they've done thus far, cut down on the material costs (like they've done thus far - plastics are a huge part of this) and now restrict sales?

Rackham's downfall was foreseeable, I remember the rants about this in UKCORD when they shot down a product with increasing fanbase and sales and eventually the whole company due to their "vision".

Although I haven't been for GW products (except for their paints) for the last 6(?) years, this could seriously hint their downfall - even with a viable range of products and a huge customer base. If their sales plummet and bills are not paid, any company will fall. I really wouldn't wish this to happen.

Grantedly, most of the old crew have now left the sinking behemoth, and my tin foil hat makes me understand why. Perhaps they saw what was coming.

This is not the first time they have done this. They did something similar in the mid 90's.

They really should have done a lot more work with the resin before going into production. I suspect that among the other problems there were some bad resin mixes, some cases of insufficient pressure/vacuum (depending on production method), and letting too much time lapse before or during the pour.

I believe that they are charging more per troy ounce of resin than a jeweler pays for sterling silver.... 'Tis daft is what it is.

Some folks are blaming their store/mail order model - that at this point they are spending money to support their brick & mortar stores, not making money from them they way they used to. And as a result they are treating their resellers as competition, not a vital part of their distribution stream. And the way they are handling Australia and New Zealand.... Dumb, dumb, dumb.

They could be growing the hobby, but instead they are entrenching.
