Paizo has announced the contents of their upcoming .

* The Pathfinder RPG Beginner Box includes: 64-page Hero’s Handbook, detailing character creation, spells, equipment, and general rules for playing the game
* 96-page Game Master’s Guide packed with adventures, monsters, magical treasures, and advice on how to narrate the game and control the challenges faced by the heroes
* A complete set of 7 high-impact polyhedral dice
* More than 80 full-color pawns depicting tons of heroes, monsters, and even a fearsome black dragon
* Four pregenerated character sheets to throw you right into the action
* Four blank character sheets to record the statistics and deeds of your custom-made hero
* A durable, reusable, double-sided Flip-Mat play surface that works with any kind of marker

$35 US.

Classes are Fighter, Wizard, Rogue, and Cleric. Races are Human, Dwarf, Elf, and Halfling. Rules are included for generating your own characters.

Looks like they took a look at the 4e beginner box, shook their heads, then copied the old Holmes box set, but with dice. The four classic classes, the four classic races.



Not really related, but Conflict Games has released Conflict Roleplaying (PFRPG) which is a competitive game using the Pathfinder rules -

I find this interesting because they claim to be building off of the Pathfinder rules - not the 3.5 OGL. It looks like Pathfinder has started getting some name recognition in its own right. While the game will doubtless have the OGL listed it is openly claiming compatibility with PFRPG.

I just ordered it - I suspect that it may be a good match with TLX sets, especially Dragon God.

No trouble.

I think it looks a lot better than the 4e Red Box.

Aimed at a younger crowd, I think, than the standard Big Book O' Love, but a good introduction.

One stated purpose is that folks can create tournament legal characters with this set, so joining a Pathfinder Society game is perfectly feasible.

The flip mat, dice, and the monster counters should see use even after the players and GMs move to the standard Core.

Oh my fuzzy ears and whiskers! Paizo playtested the new boxed game with people who had never gamed before!

That is so... essential, for a beginners game.
