Hell, even Robocop have more motivation of character then Iron Man did.

I just saw inception for the first time the other day. It's the most over-hyped thing I think I've seen since Episode 1. The ending might as well have been a giant shot of the director's middle finger.

Legacy suffered from to much fluff CGI. 2 of the 4 major players in the movie were basicly gods. I really want to see more of this angle. Much like Flynn in the first one basically recoding huge chunks of the system to do his bidding. For a sequel almost 20 years later, it did not fail as bad as it could have.

9 was a descent little animated Sci-fi number with a good story. District 9 was also a really solid Sci-fi movie.

Children of Men was a great movie that fits the Sci-Fi bill, although not the crazy graphics part
The Fountain is a great movie I watched not too long ago.
Watchmen I loved (although I am not sure if this counts due to the superhero aspect)
Equilibrium doesn't get the appreciation it deserves

@Talae: just wanted to toss this in - Equilibrium has the best hand to hand gunfight ever!

Tron Legacy is all about nostalgia (saw it last night). If you loved the original, you'll love this one too. If the original didn't stick or you missed it, Tron probably won't hit your geek spot.

I personally really enjoyed it but I'm a Tron geek. I played the Tron games in the arcade by my highschool like some kind of fiend. The original movie struck a strong chord for me, so returning to the grid was like visiting a very old friend.

Pros:

* The grid really did feel isolated from the rest of the world. Left to gestate and grow slightly insane after 30 years in an old computer.

* Bridges was awesome! His humanity and acting chops held the show together.

* Fun references to the original movie and 80's slang throughout.

* CGI Bridges was actually pretty effective. A little plastic BUT that fit the tone perfectly.

* Great design! The whole movie had a beautifully realized style.

* Good action that hearkened back to a few 80's flicks.

Cons:

* By design or not 3D was weak. In an odd kind of way, I think the nature of the visuals circumvented the need for 3D. It wasn't offensive 3D, just really subdued. See it in 2D and save your money on that bit.

* Needed more action because the action was great!

* Dialog ran a little long but had good/necessary info. It was appreciated but slowed things down a bit.

I think there's still potential in this license if Disney takes some honest criticism. Deeper connections to characters and perhaps a darker, more intense script would be good. I would probably ditch Bridges son though for another lead with better range. This could still be a blockbuster trilogy and the first movie set us up for that eventuality nicely.

Thanks 'Ape. Will aim to see this if I can get the brothers organised - we older two saw the first in the movies and my younger brother wouldn't be happy if we didn't include him. Oh and dad too.
