I'm betting their trust to fund the museum with the turbulent stock market. Even safe havens like gov't bonds aren't paying off. Cut backs yes, but closing?!?

Really too bad. As much as I didn't agree with Roy Rogers Politics, he was an Icon in his day.

The House of Cash closed down, but according to all that I can find on it, it was sanctioned by the Cash's themselves. I really love listing to Mr. Cash and his cover of Hurt originally by Nine Inch Nails is totally awesome.

I always liked Johnny Cash and that 'Hurt' song is haunting ... a loneliness so deep that it ... well, just haunting and very familiar I think to most at one time or another in their life.

It seems we are all going to be in some more hurt as the economy keeps slipping. I was perplexed that they kept saying we were 'recovering' when the only thing happening was a flood of fiat money mostly going out of the country. Such 'props' are not a recovery unfortunately. In my humble opinion it was a bandaid strategy and we all know how they hurt when ripped off.

Though it may be worth keeping in mind what was happening to folks in Hollywood who weren't jumping on the Jingo Express. (Again, a lot like what happened to folks, including The Dixie Chicks, in the months following 9-11.) A lot of folks said a lot of things out of fear of the blackball. Things like that just fill me with love of being an American. (I know someone who's career in the FBI got sidelined by the fact that he liked folk music. Good old cross dressing J. Edgar Hoover was head of the Bureau back then.)

The chicks chose to say some things that didn't go well with their fanbase, and they got stroppy when people disagreed with that.

I didn't think of them as traitors or any of the other names that got bruited about but I surely stopped buying or listening to them. The "poor us you guys were the ones who were wrong" song later was just the icing on the cake.

It wasn't so much what they said as that I want entertainers to be entertaining - if an actor or musician or artist want to use their stage as a pulpit or a speakers box they get punted to the curb, no matter what they espouse. And fighting with and insulting your fanbase is just plain stupid.

Famous or not any person has a right to their beliefs. I think most are behind that. Hijacking an event to aspouse them is not a good idea however. I was apaulled that our president was bad mouthed from a stage in a foreign country by an American. That said, publically burning their albums, or whatnot in protest is just as wrong. Two bad messages don't make either right.

I certainly wouldn't let any celebrity or political ad influence my vote. It is my responsibility as a citizen to research the candidates and make myself aware of as many facts as possible in order to cast an intellingent vote. In other words, its my 'obigation' to do the work.

I am a child of the 'sixties - I grew up listening to Peter, Paul & Mary, Utah Phillips, and Bob Dylan. I watched The Smothers Brothers and Mark Russel. My grandparents and great grandfather listened to songs of the Troubles, and I can still sing those songs today.

To say that I think entertainers should stand up for their beliefs is more than a bit of an understatement. An entertainer is a voice, and voices are meant to be heard.

My opinion of the Shrub is considerably lower than what the Chicks espoused. Heck, my opinion of all natural fertilizer is higher.

The Auld Grump, as for 2012... the Mayan calendar had ended multiple times, the Mayans would have used this as an excuse to party like it was 1999.... (Another time when the world failed to end....)

Boris was one of the greats. His T.V. show Thriller has also stood up well to time, (One thing I remember from a publicity still for the series - Dick York standing on the bottom two stairs of a staircase, Boris standing on the floor, already bending from the weight of years and his height, towering over Mr. York. For an actor of the 'thirties Karloff was huge.)

And I have used imitations of his distinctive voice for lots of NPCs.
