I need a printer that can handle cardstock.

I just purchased 224 gsm cardstock. The same thickness that I have been using but now my printer will not take it in!

Worse yet when I get it to feed through although the print quality looks good, my craft robo will not recognise all of the registration marks.

What standard printer can take the abuse I put them through?

I use EPSON STYLUS DX7400 and 220 gsm card and It works perfectly. You do have to brighten the contrast a little bit but it takes the card fine and has a nice clear print.

I've now killed EPSON SX-100 and EPSON SX-200 in the last two years.

They are good printers, just not up for the continual use that I put them in.

I will do some research on the DX7400, but I'm thinking of going Laser.

Has some discussion about an affordable laser on the market - the colours are a bit bright but I'm sure it can be fixed - as I said in the thread above though I haven't had time recently to play very much with the settings.

I posted a pic comparing that printer to a print I had done at a professional print shop which will help for comparison.

oops Looks like I actually ordered 250 gsm paper.

Well looking into it my printer recommends a photopaper that is 255 gsm so I don't see why it would not take the card stock.

What would really be nice is a printer that you can just select the weight and type of paper in, instead of "Epson Matte" or "EPSON PREMIUM Glossy" the later being for the 255 gsm but looks like on cardstock.

Laser vs. Inkfet

I hate to say it but my wallet does not cover the HUGE start up cost of the toners. I really want a laser, and the laser printers are getting cheaper, but the 4 toners, usually cost more than the printer.

So I'm looking at another Inkjet.

I'm shooting for these two.

Higher start up cost, but I can get the ink really cheap.

Text prints are not as good according to reviews.

Regarding your printer issue, gsm is not a measure of thickness. The photopaper may still be thinner than the cardstock, even if a square meter of it weighs more.

The DX7400 has a scanner AND a photocopier, also it has DURABrite Ultra Ink and you can get 3 sets of all four ink cartridges for under £14! (That's for all three together, not each set)
