After reading the various threads on printers and the pro's and con's of Inkjet and Laserprinters I have decided to get a colour laserprinter.

I hardly know anyone who has one of those though, so I would be very glad if anyone could give me some advice on which printer to choose for printing cardboard models.
Are there any laserprinter models that work especially well ?

The Brother HL-4040CN does an excellent job. Good gradients, no flaking, limited page curl! Those are the 3 points you need to look out for.

If you have a Staples store near you, head down there, pick one up and try it out at home. Staples has a VERY good return policy so if you explain the things you are trying to avoid with your printer, they'll let you choose another one with little to no headaches. I did this 3 times until I found the right printer for the job.

I have been wanting to get into paper modeling ever since I discovered WWG a couple of years back, but omehow never found the time. - The Wormhole demo is what finally got me

I shall try and have a look at that printer .

As for Staples - I am afraid the next of their shops is a couple of thousand kilometers away ( I live in Austria ) , but I will manage

I have almost that printer. Brother HL 4040-CDN which means it does duplexing. Been running a lot of stuff through it. I've found it fast, and reliable.

But DAMN is it heavy. 70+lbs.

Do you guys refill your toners yourselves before buying new ones ?

I have an HP 4700DN and I love it. It retails for around $1500, but I found a scratch & dent with only 10 pages printed on eBay for a fraction of that. It has vibrant color, prints FAST, and has long-lasting cartridges. It is heavy, but I find that it makes my life a bunch easier. I use it for work as well, but it was a great find.
