I getcha now. So you LIKE cavalry, but you DISLIKE regular old horses that EVERYONE has used for EVERY fantasy game EVER. Well, do the WM mounted units come as separate rider and mount? If so, have you considered using some from Warhammer? Maybe even some . As long as it just counts as a mount, no one will care what its mounted ON.

The only real tip I have for the Maiden is DO NOT let the front bow dry BEFORE mounting it to the foamcore base. It will not BEND correctly and will bow outwards if the glue dries before forming.

As I was discussing the ranges of firearms in WARMACHINE are ridiculously low - given those ranges it is more likely than you might expect to see cavalry. And cavalry lasted into the twentieth century.

As for heavy armor, gunpowder weapons, and cannon.... heavy armor and firearms coexisted for over a hundred years - the peak of armor making was during the same time frame as gunpowder Giving us Maximilian plate, and the heavy Gothic plate of the Tudors.

In in use the armor was often lightened. In the case of infantry it was not unlikely that a soldier might wear just the placart (and tassets on the legs, covered over with a buff coat), leaving the rest of the breastplate behind.

Bigger changes were going on with CQ weapons - halberds, hammers, and pikes replacing the sword. When swords were used they were often smaller and lighter - small sword, rapier, etc. with point work replacing the slash. For over a century far more melee weapons were fielded than firearms - typically two or three to one. Guns were expensive, and not all that accurate.

Heavy armor was often 'Proofed' - where the armor smith would take a pistol, count off paces, then shoot the armor, leaving behind a lead splotch that was sometimes decorated. This is the source of our phrase 'bulletproof' - armor that has been proven against shot.

Contrary to what many believe, good armor was more effective against a bullet (soft, low velocity rounds) than against either arrows or crossbows. (A square headed bolt would go through armor like anything.) Slow as they were, early handguns were still faster than the heavy crossbow.

How well does Warmachine & Hoards mesh starter rules wise? I was thinking of picking up some Khador & Oboros starters so I could have that whole Russian werewolf thing going on, seeing as how Himmelveil has got me jonesin’ for some fantasy romping.

From what I know Privateer has been weighing their options since the OGL died.

Having seen the plastic kits and heard from people who built them, they're a welcome step. If it becomes the norm for warjacks I'll have to hone my plastic modeling skills..
