I make my own carrier sheets on 110lb stock and the only time I get curling issues is when I've spayed the adhesive too heavily. Then I just put the curly bit under a big book for a while to flatten it out.

The cheap ones are reusable.

The OEM carrier sheet generally doesn't last all that long--mine have averaged about 150 pages before becoming worthless for a variety of reasons (losing tack, getting creased, etc.)

When you buy a cheap ream of cardstock for $6 and a can of Krylon Easy-Tack for $8, you're spending $14. For that $14, you're getting 250 carrier sheets, each of which can be reused an average of 5 times. That's 1250 pages for $14, for a per-page cutting total of just above 1 cent per page.

With the plastic carrier sheet, you're spending $10 plus shipping, and you're getting about 150 pages. Assume $4 for shipping (just to be fair), and you're spending about 9 cents per page.

As for the carrier sheet being chewed up--if your sheet is getting chewed up, YOUR BLADE SETTINGS ARE TOO HIGH. You should only see a faint trace of the cutting. (That's how you know you have the blade settings dialed in correctly.)

The Crotale is one of the machine-cuttable models, along with the Percheron, Sandmaster, Doomball, the 2009 update of the Utility Shuttle, the terrain mats, and the modular hills. Pretty much everything else I'm doing from this point forward is also going to be machine-cuttable. Older sets will be updated to a machine-cuttable format on an as-needed basis.

That's an excellent plan--65-67lb excels for building small volumes like props, vehicles, and whatnot, while 110lb works great for larger volumes and structural sandwich folds.
