this isnt a joke, im kinda startled
theres someone in my backyard, and im trying to get them to come out and get caught, so I turned all of the lights off and am being really quiet.
I heard voices through the window, I went back there and saw two shaped dart behid my shed. so now im sitting here in the dark, scared out of my mind, telling people I dont know something they wont read until the event is long past over, and somehow I find comfort in it.

I have one word for you: shotgun.

The sound of a shotgun round being chambered has a calming effect on intruders. Especially if accompanied by "FREEZE %!@#%!^!!!!"

Did we ever find out what happened? I mean random thread to start with but then the poster didn't finish it off... but is posting else where on here after the fact - so he isn't hog tied and being "used" by Bubba.


As for gun laws here in Australia... umm if you don't have a farming property then you don't have a good reason to own a gun. Handguns are a total no no too.

I belive that only participating in one post like that is illegal in my country (and not that I have something againts it, I don't like guns...)

I allways see quite strange the...well I don't know the right word to say... but the "need" to have a firearm or a few ones at home, I supose that when you need one you understand the "why"... but in certain ways I feel more secure at home without any firearm over there (I belive that there's more deaths by "accident" than saving lives...but maybe is not a real one)...

Well hope that in the case we're speaking he has something by hand to solve the situation (a phone to call the police ?)

My own tastes in guns is a trifle archaic - but believe me, a blunderbuss looks mighty threatenin' when you are looking down a bore more'n two inches across.... (I'd hate to fire one indoors though - the stink tends to linger....)

The Auld Grump, who does not currently own a gun, archaic or otherwise. And given a choice would actually go with a Brown Bess, barrel shortened to carbine length, and the muzzle flared for shipboard use. Gods, I love that gun....

All this talk of home defence and no one has mentioned geese yet. Our geese used to keep everyone away. Most entertaining.

You have a point about geese. The ones in Visalia, CA that I encountered liked to herd as much as the corgis do, and can nip you darn hard just as the corgis do too; especially the goose we knicknamed 'old ugly'. He sure turned my direction around whenever he pop on the scene. LOL!

I was going to suggest a guard cat like this one:

My dad owns a Maine Coon cat that is 25+ lbs. It is amazing.

Goodness, one more set of limbs and you could cast that feline as Honor Harrington's Tree Cat! Aren't those huge cats called a Max Rex or something? They sure are impressive. Beautiful!

I used to have a pair of Collies that would bark and growl like made. Enough to scare people away.

However had they actually broken in they would have cowered in fear.

Talae, I've been investigating those Maine Coon cats. Getting a pair of them is now on my agenda but is going to take some time to find the right breeder closer to home. I also have to work with the corgis to be sure they can accept the cats. The Akitas would never come in contact with them as they are not house dogs. Anyway, I will have the breeder inspect the place and meet all of the dogs to be sure he or she is satisfied the cats would have a safe and loving home. Thanks so much for posting that picture of a Maine Coon cat.

PS - there is a Manx cat but they have a lot of health problems
