Newton: How about we each put 50% of our available funds into the ship account? That should give us a decent operating fund for ship expenses and to cover major purchases for any jobs we do. Taking equal shares of our resources means Tryn can participate fully in all this.

As for income: Do we work out salaries and then divide any profits that are left? Or do we skip salaries and just go for profit sharing? (I'm happy with the latter option.)

And the profit share itself: Equal? Or weighted in some way?

Andros I like the idea of the general fund, but I'm not sure about the percentage idea. It might be OK with it if we keep track of the realitive donations and get that percentage back when we disolve the fund.

For future group earnings I would vote for an equal profit share with some percent taken off the top for the general fund. Maybe 40% general fund, 60% profit share.

Grainger Simplest, and fairest thing may be to all contribute the same amount to a ships fund, which gets paid of as and when we can (maintaining the original amount) After we are all paid back its maintain the fund, and equal shares of any profits. We will have to figure out a way to earn money tho

As we're not in what anyone would call a regular line of business, our income is likely to be very irregular, if potentially very lucrative, and we could have some unusual expenses along the way. Which makes me think that $20K might turn out to be a bit light.

How about we start there and up that if/when we need to. We can always help Tryn out by letting him defer payment of any extra until he can cover it from profits. - got to let the young guy keep some money in his pocket, after all.

It's a bit different if someone wants out early. In that case, I'd suggest they get 50% of their share of the fund automatically, and the fate of other half share (i.e. to pay it out or retain it) gets decided by those remaining. That way there's an incentive to leave on good terms and at a time that suits the whole team.

Tryn Dudes, as much as I am, like, appreciative and all that of your concern for my fundages, I am more than a little uncomfortable keeping any of my money for, like, myself. I would be happy to put all of my little credits into the ships fund.

Tryn grew up in a communal society and is fairly uncomfortable with the idea of personal wealth, or even personal property.

Don't forget that in the message from the Public Order Commission of Regina regarding the death of Vlen Blackett, it did say that a sum of money had been deposited with the First Ducal Bank to cover any expenses... so any fuel costs etc that occur as a result of journeying to Regina can be considered to be covered.

Alright, dudes, I've managed to, like, plot us a jump course to Regina. With God's blessing we should be able to make it in, like, a week.

Newton uses the remaining time in the Ruie system to put through some calls to potential contacts in case we return to Ruie.

I remember the system being a pretty major starport, so we could probably do any ship maintenance or upgrades that people might have been putting off for a while.

Newton: Wow! I guess the starport must just be a transit hub, with next to none of the actual trade allowed outside the starport. There must be some serious interest in contraband planet-side if they're that far behind - assuming of course that they have something to trade for it.

Is the starport actually ground based? With a set-up like that, it could just as easily be moon-based or in orbit.
