Ok, here we go. I assume you've left your ship at the scout station and are boarding a shuttle for the surface.

You crowd onto a shuttle to the surface. About half the passengers are Regina citizens; the rest are fellow travellers and spacers. There’s a hubbub of strange accents and languages, and you catch fragments of gossip about galactic affairs. One newly-arrived traveller from the core worlds peers around him and wonders out loud if any of you are Zhodani spies; another claims to be a cousin of the Emperor, and would anyone like the honour of buying him dinner, for he has temporarily mislaid his wallet and his starship. A few seconds later, a pair of Public Order Commission Offi cers appear, grab the panhandling prince, and melt away into the crowd once more.

The shuttle detaches from the Highport and falls towards the surface. You pass over the spine of another megafreighter; off to one side you see a brightly coloured Aslan spice merchant heading for the jump line. A trio of fast interceptors fly alongside your shuttle for a few moments before peeling off, their grav plates fl aring brightly in the shadow of the freighter. And then you’re out in open space, and you can see the planet below.

Or, more accurately, the moon. Regina is the moon of the gas giant Assiniboia, and the ruddy-yellow crescent of the gas giant dominates the viewport. Below you is Regina itself; you’re spinning down towards its nightside, and you can see the lights of the cities spread out like a constellation. There you can see the edge of the coast, marked by a brighter line of lights and then a great darkness. There are the lights of Credo City, a bright halo surrounding an even brighter core, and there’s Atora – the two cities are growing together into one continent-spanning metropolis. Between the two is Regina Downport, and Startown.

Your shuttle cuts through the atmosphere and flies over Startown; you glimpse narrow streets crowded with neon between the huge bulk of warehouses and fuel depots. After landing, you step out onto those neon streets and look up. It’s just after local dawn. Assiniboia hangs above you like an accusing eye. A Public Order Commission Officer at the starport gates gestures towards you. Move along, citizens! No loitering. No loitering in Startown.



What do you do next?

We'll assume Zenguy's explanation for the purpose of this campaign, it makes sense. I'm thinking it might be an editing error... possibly a hold-over from classic Traveller. I don't own the mongoose setting book, so don't know how they explain it.

Newton has TAS membership already.

Has our guide showed up?

A short man with scraggly hair steps forward from the crowd. He squints up at you, then says I presume you are the ones who asked for a guide? Where to then. Oh, pardon my manners. I'm Zantret, how do you do. He extends a callused hand in welcome.

Tryn blesses him in the manner of the The Holy And Apostolic Marlan Church.

Thandon will be looking at the guide and trying to determine how trustworthy etc he is. Not sure what skill you want to apply but here is my skill roll.

Zantret looks suspiciously at Tryn, and shifts his feet uneasily during the blessing.

Ghalgor - that would be investigate... are you trained in that?

Hello Zantret, good to meet you. I'm Newton. These are my good friends Andros, Grainger, Thandon and Tryn. Andros has suffered a bereavement. We're are here to support him through the funeral and help him sort out his uncle's estate and affairs - tie up any loose ends, that sort of thing.

As off-worlders, we'd like to keep on the right side of the authorities. We'll pay a fixed fee per day: 50% up front; the remainder at the end of our stay, providing we've had a smooth run here. Think you an help us with this?
If so, work out a acceptable rate with Thandon, he's the one who handles that side of things.

Newton observes Zantret closely through all this.

Zantret looks scruffy, and is not particularly well kept. It looks like some lessons in hygiene would go a long way to improving his appearance. You notice what looks like a map sticking out of one of his pockets, apart from that nothing out of the ordinary.

After the introduction Andros nods to Zantret but says nothing else. He is looking all around the area to see if there's anything else of interest while these negotiations go on.
