I've just started a pathfinder game again. Taking my trusty Dwarf Fighter also. I've decided to write up some back story for him... but i'm stuck. Do any of you guys write back stories? Where do you go for inspiration? How do you tie it in with the the other PCs? In my game, I'm playing with two other humans and an orc.. an albino orc. Me and the orcs.. owner, shall we say, have agreed that our PCs arent hostile with each other but are infact good friends. The orc owes my dwarf a list of life debts. The two Humans are a spellsword and a rogue.. we're all members of a city militia who have known each other a long time and have decided to branch off in to mercenary work on the side. I have a good idea of how my dwarf looks and acts.. but its the other PCs that I dont have tie-ins for. The DM has asked for some backstory and will award xp for it too. I think I may have some kind of writers block. |

imo, a backstory should include a number of loose ends, which the GM can mine for adventure hooks or NPCs. The man who dishonored your sister managed to flee from justice; the last words of your dying father were to beware your twin brother; and a few months ago, a mysterious stranger helped you out with a goodly sum of money, then vanished with a smile. You can easily add ties to other characters this way. Just include them in some sort of prophecy or warning or message; have them be related to your stepuncles third wife; or bring them a garbled letter from a mad hermit. Include some of the same NPCs or mysteries the other players have been using (Wait, you've been given a golden signet ring by this blonde elf woman, too?) To give the character depth, add a few goals which are totally irrelevant to the game (not to kill the Orc-king, but rather to visit Aunt Dora when you're in the area). ime, that's about as far as you can take race/class/level, and it's plenty ![]() |
