One thing that I found out last year while doing a vid card upgrade, SLI technology had changed from the first machine I built. My original machine used a bridge connection on the cards for the SLI cards, but newer SLI cards now use the video bus on the motherboard as the bridge. Something to be aware of when upgrading cards. |

Actually, I gather that the very latest generation gives nVidia back their lead. But that in the previous generation ATI owned nVidia. ![]() Looking at the cards, I might have to get a new motherboard to get the most out of any upgrade to my video cards, which means a new CPU, which means pretty much a new computer.... My own fault, really - I scrimped on the motherboard last time, getting a model that was cheaper because it was being phased out. Faster SATA ports and some USB 3 connectors would be nice. Yeah, just priced out my dream system - so far beyond my actual needs that it is ridiculous - almost 8K.... And big enough that it almost counts as a minicomputer, rather than a microcomputer. ![]() The Auld Grump - Digital Storm put my current system together, and I have to say that I am happy with it. Happy enough to make me greedy.... |
