I just realized that I was sent an invite to the DDi Virtual Table Top beta. I thought I would see what others thoughts about it before subjecting my players to the beta. Thoughts? |

i havent used it myself, but ive read reports about it and most of it has been positive. of course the only reason to use it would be if you couldnt get a game going locally and needed to do it via skype or something. |

Some initial thoughts (I haven't used it much and haven't even had one of my players join yet): *During beta I get access as a DM through my login. I get three keys to send out for single players to join single sessions (I have to use these if I want to be a player too). Apparently, I can ask for more and this process isn't difficult, but I haven't done it yet. *I am limited to simple drawn shapes (Lines) and dungeon tiles. I was hoping to import images like those in the TLX Planner. *I have to create all my monsters. There might be an option to import from the monster builder but it is one monster at a time. *It is definitely NOT the 3D table top stuff that we saw what seems like forever ago in video previews from some conference. *Visually it seems fine, but it is Java and completely web-based. Occasionally I have had slow load times. *My first impressions are that it is a suped up version of MapTools or any of the other freebie software out there (but this is with about 5-10 minutes messing around with it). |

It definitely seems like the ground work for integration is laid already. I didn't play with the program more than the 10-15 minutes earlier today (got sidetracked building terrain). They even opened my access to the character builder and adventure tools (while not giving me full DDi access due to not being a current subscriber any more). |

I guess the question is how quickly you can put together the encounters. Everything I did was on the fly. Can you just set up a pile of 'rooms', and grab some enemies at the last second and have that work? On a side note, how does it deal with 3D? Much of what I run is 3D. Guys on roofs, etc. |
