Well, if the pricing is similar to that of the wargame, it will likely be worth it just for the minis.

The Auld Grump, not a big fan of their wargame, but it was well worth the price of admission, and it does play very quickly, even without the chess clocks....

The tiles are a little bland compared to WWG, but I might get this to get started on some miniature painting. Looks like it'll be a fun game too.

I... am going to have to play it to see how it balances - in some ways it is a lot like Space Hulk. Like Space Hulks the two sides do not have identical rules. Even the way that they are allocated actions are slightly different.

All else being equal, I would say that the dwarfs have the edge, but things aren't equal - and then the scenarios change things further.

At first glance, I like it better than Kings of War - despite the short rules booklet the game has a bit more density than KoW.

Each player starts with a preset number of figures and a pool of action tokens, determined by the scenario. Dwarfs refill their hand to the number of tokens that they started with each turn, Undead replenish only one. But... the Dwarf tokens generally grant only one or two actions, generally one - the Undead tokens grant as many as four, generally two or three. Dwarfs have a few 'Follow On Actions' tokens in the mix - you can place a Follow On Action on a figure that has already gained an action, allowing an extra move or attack. The Necromancer has a few things that he can do without using action points - Baleful Gaze has a number of uses per game, for a wide variety of benefits, and Wells can spawn a skeleton every round, for free.

Dwarfs, in general, are faster than Undead, and harder to injure. Undead ignore the first injury in a round, and if injured may be reduced to Bones or Killed. Bone Piles, whether from Undead getting injured, or just lying around as determined by the scenario, can spawn a skeleton at the cost of an action.

Dwarfs have standard Dwarfs, Shieldbreakers - who's weapons pretty much ignore Armor, and Mastiffs (a Bone Pile with a Mastiff next to it is to busy being chewed on to produce a skeleton).

Undead have Skeletons, Revenants (better armored skeletons), and Skeletal Hounds, revenants that have been reduced to a Pile of Bones respawn as skeletons, not revenants, if the Necromancer spends an action die. Skeletal Hounds have the best speed for Undead - the equal of the Dwarfs. Mastiffs are slower than dwarks, the same speed as a skeleton.

Too many variables to determine balance without an actual play through.

The Auld Grump, it'll make creating scenarios a right bugger, too.

Planning on trying the game tonight, swapping sides after each game.

Playing solo... the first scenario seemed balanced.
