okay so i need some ideas for the vine horror encounter. basically what i have is the vine horror grabbing both a guard and one of the players. im thinking of dividing up the whole vine horror battle into 2 parts. first part - skill challenge (but again taking care not to make it seem like one) involving the other players trying to catch the vine horror as it drags the captured player through the forest. also i'll have the captured player making various skill checks to get out of the clutches of the vine horror. eventually the vine horror will let go and then the battle will start. second part - actual fight with the vine horror. but im wanting to do something a little different. i have extra floral wreath wire, and i was thinking about making little vine representations to put on the map squares. but im open to suggestions on how to do this. if you read above in my original post, i was thinking about making the players move around to avoid vine entanglements. the other idea was to use the smaller vine mini's that i'll make and have them move independently like minions. thoughts? |

You must let one Saproling get away. It’s an awesome villain. It can seed, or clone. (Think Vampire minions, dominated by their master.) It can burrow to get away, etc. Your players already love the work you put into it, and the players are also about to give the critter a good reason to hate them. After the players fight it off, then go have some fun with other adventures, then… If that thing went to a town while they were busy, well, when they get back, the horror would have trashed the place. I don’t care what galaxy you’re from, but your players have to feel responsible. (A few dead babies never hurt either.) Trap… players are crossing a bridge… CREAK CRASH! Its heaves and smashes in the water. The players see a green leafy vine slither off. Attack… that’s not ivy on the house. To resolve this, they will need a fabled potion of Plant Control to beat it. (Maybe the source of the mutant potion can tell them where to look for this legendary potion.) It’s not about your player’s willingness to win or prevail. They have to have a vested hate for this thing. And all gamers know, revenge is a dish best served with a d20. |
