Ahmen. Take it from some one who dropped out of High School and College only to go back at a ripe old age. I wish I had finished and I wish I had paid attention to the core sciences (maths, biology, chemistry). I'm going to University now for Geology and it is a very complex and hard science. I probably would have more time for my hobbies if I did not have to learn my course work, but the basic fundamentals that I should have picked up in High School. Work hard and when your done with High school take a gap year and relax and travel. |

Matthew777 let me tell you, I think you have more then a few people who understand what you are going through. I too had parents that questioned my gaming and were always on me for notworking working hard enough in school. I remember wondering if I'd ever get a girlfirend, and am currently so pressed for time that I often can not do what I want. But let me give you a few pieces of advice. 1) Don't stress about the girl thing. I know it's hard, but just give it time. When the right circumstances happen you will get a girl, trying too hard often ends up with you being alone. All my girlfriends in high school came from me talking to a girl for a while and letting her know I'm interested but not pushing too hard, just being a friend. Then when she was ready she let me know and we took things to the next level. 2) The gaming thing with your parents is harder. It took me 25 years before my Dad actually said something good about me playing D&D, my only advice is to plug away, sooner or later things will change for the better. 3) As for School and what you want to do, everyone else has covered why school is important, so let me ask, What performing arts do you like and why does drama class not cut it? Do you want to do music and aren't allowed? Is the acting too simple? Once you know that, decide if performing is worth giving up some gaming time for. If the answer is yes, then try asking your parents to help you find out if there are any additional local performance groups you can join. If it's really gaming they object too, they may be very supportive in getting you into something more different. Just know you will probably be giving up some of your free time and money to do that. Hopefully something in my ramblings helps you.... |

Mathew777: So... as an adult geek, you have a completely different set of problems; There's nothing quite like having your butt handed to you by some 12 year old. You don't play Team Fortress 2 by chance, 'cause if its you who's been pasting my brains on the walls, I'll be most put out. |

Nice! I fall into a category somewhere in between, but definitely see the humor (and the sad reality...). |
