Reaper Miniatures changed the look of their giants a while back, and I am curious as to how people feel about the change: Old Frost Giant New Frost Giant Old Fire Giant New Fire Giant I think that I prefer the newer giants, which look more primal and elemental to me, but the older figures are kind of what I grew up on - back then everybody's frost giant wore a horned helmet. (Heck, Ral Partha had a hill giant that wore a horned helmet, and everybody used it as a frost giant....) Opinions? The Auld Grump |

If Privateer Press made a Giant I'd be really keen to buy and paint it. Their stuff so so well detailed. Indeed I would go so far as to say that an entire generation of mini painters is being ruined by their experience with Privateer Press. Trim Flash? What's that? Filing? Green Stuff? |

Much of Privateer Press' material is quite good. But the exceptions... are pretty bad. Their plastics are good, but their metals tend to lack detail, and have a poor fit. (Khador Gap syndrome.) Largely a byproduct of making the pieces too big for the molding process. And if we are going to mention figures that have nothing to do with the poll.... For the 'Giants are just big humies' category Ultraforge has a very good entry. as does Black Scorpion. Black Scorpion's figure is kind of... piratey.... Both do better, in my opinion, than Privateer. The Auld Grump |

And then give you a case of Convention Crud as a going away present! (Pretty much every convention has that problem - there is always going to be somebody who decides to go to the con, even though they have a bad case of the Galloping Never Get Overs.) A bash from the past - the old Marauder Miniatures giant. He has always looked like the kind that lives at the top of a bean stalk. One that I really wish that I had picked up, back in the day - He's got freakin' cows hanging out of his bag. Somehow he never looked particularly evil to me, might even be a nice guy. And from Elmore and Ral Partha came - A mountain giant, with pigs on his belt. Unlike the others this one is still available, though from a different company, and can be purchased from . ![]() Here he is with some Copplestone Barbarians - The Auld Grump |

Damn, Im not supposed to look at miniatures, especially ones that are not painted.... But, other than that, the newer ones look more fierce, I like em! |

I like the old ones better, both because they look like the classic illustrations more and because I dislike figures posed in dramatic "battle rage" poses. It makes them useless for anything else. Also, the new giants look like they watched too much Wrestlemania and not enough opera. |
