Then I went to see MacGruber. ... ... ... Dear Lord, someone needs to visit everyone involved in making that pile o' **** and explain to them the definition of comedy, using an aluminum baseball bat for punctuation. And this is coming from somebody who enjoys early Doris Wishman and who owns a copy of Jesse James Meets Frankentein's Daughter. The Auld Grump |

Saw it twice more today and loved it. Spotted lots of easter eggs too! Hopefully we will skip Twilight 3 and run this till Inception drops... |

Spoiler text, highlight to read: The toys holding hands as they slide down towards the fire. Well done. Andy finding Woody in the box at the end of the film, you can see his inner struggle...the "last playtime" scene...just touching... These characters have more "inner life" than many live action film characters!! |

Heh - the next movie that I plan to see, with any real hope of enjoyment, is Part of the reason I want to see it is that when the Sorcerer (Nicholas Cage) and the apparent villain (Alfred Molina) are preparing for the upcoming conflict both of them say 'this is going to be fun! Apparently throwing off the masquerade to get down to some serious spellslinging is something that both of them are looking forward to. ![]() ![]() Plus, I am a sucker for urban fantasy, even if my preference is Victorian urban fantasy. The Auld Grump, dear gods, Christopher Lee has over 260 film credits... no wonder he complains about younger actors' work ethic.... Seven this year alone. *EDIT* Cool, they're doing a movie of Burke & Hare.... Up the close, and down the stair, But and ben with Burke and Hare. Burke's the butcher, Hare's the thief, Knox the boy what buys the beef.... |

Monsters Vs. Aliens seemed to me to have some interesting elements, but was a trifle too scary or simply uninteresting for my boys. They watched it once and I haven't had the initiative to get them to watch it again and they haven't asked (even though it's been offered a few times). I liked Hugh Laurie in it, but otherwise I was nonplussed. I think there were some good attempts to make the "husband" relatively sympathetic, but the eventual aspect of just turning him into a villain was a trifle too simple and didn't seem to resonate with young boys who aren't interested in the romantic plot to begin with. |
