Next week my final exams start. 2 exams a week, one three hour exam and one two hour exam for three weeks. <sarcasm>Should be a breeze </sarcasm> with only 4.6 billion years of history, 18 geological hand specimens, 15 geological thin sections, 5 Phylums, 6 Subphylums, 14 Class, 9 subclass, 27 Orders, of invertebrates to know, over 300 bits of terminology, 30 diagrams (approximately, I lost count), Geochemistry Theory (no practicals thank goodness), Geology Theory, Mineralogy Theory, which includes a full structural and chemical breakdown and how they react with their environment (Heat, Pressure, Composition), and one nervous breakdown. You know I spent seven years as a state certified 911 operator, four of those years as head of my department. I've talked people out of suicide, I've instructed people how to give medical assistance, I've successfully navigated multiple units of police officers in urban areas to catch a suspect while taking other emergency calls... ...but I don't remember being as stressed as I am now! Other than the Police Academy I have not had to take any exams in about 16-18 years. |

Yeah another down! I'm half way there! Geology practical went well. Three hour exam consisting of making a cross section map, identifying hand specimens of rocks and looking at 'Thin Sections' under a microscope. I think I did quite well and I'm feeling pretty good! Friday is Invertebrate Palaeontology which I feel very confident on then next week I have Earth History and Geochemistry which I'm a bit scared of. |

Yes and no? I'm from the States and I'm still getting a grip on all of this. They are all with honours, the firsts are distinctions, like an A, the 2.1 is like an A- or B+, the 2.2 is like a B, B-, 3 is pass with a basic to limited knowledge (skin of your teeth pass) then there is Fail and Hard Fail (what I like to call Epic Fail) |
