I'm very easy to entertain at the movies. It really takes a lot for me to dislike a movie; especially a medieval fantasy like Robin Hood. I think the sadest part was the that the first 2 hours were actually pretty good. A bit confusing but not bad; I was actually enjoying it.

Then in the last 30 min or so they throw it all away.... just flushed it right down the toilet. I mean my wife and I were laughing out loud! We are usually very civil, keep to ourselves, and quiet.... we couldn't help ourselves from poking fun at it and laughing! It truly was that bad... I kid you not; it turns in to Saving Private Robin. They actually have D-day between King Phillip of France and King John + the barons + Robin Hood + .... the dirty orphan kids on ponys lead by Marian... wait what? For real? Yes! Notice I didn't call her Maid Marian? She's not a maiden at all...

Some things that annoyed me but I could get over... it's a total re-write of the classic story. OK... fine... it's a piece of fiction and if they want to rewrite it so be it; it's their Robin Hood story now. How it was rewritten made it confusing at times but I can deal with that. It's much more grim and gritty.... fine by me; I actually like those kinds of movies but I could see where others miss the Merry Men and swashbuckeling fun. A significant part of this new story is basically "Somersby" (movie where Richard Gear returns home from civil war to his wife.... but he's not the real Somersby; he stole the dudes identity and came back to his house pretending to be him, etc etc) Whic again; OK, i can get past that and it's really not that bad.

It's just that after 2 hours of those things it all came to a laughable head with the French landing on the beaches in wooden DUKW's and Marian showing up in full armor leading a brigade of dirty orphan kids riding ponies. I mean they even made it sound like machine gun fire with the amount of arrows hitting shields.... scenes of men in the water drowning... frame by frame right out of Saving Private Ryan.

As cheesy as Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves with Kevin Costner was.... it's better than this train wreck.

Actually, there is some argument as to whether Robin Hood was entirely fictional.
And if he wasn't, just how many there were of him over the course of a couple of centuries.

There should be a law banning Americans from making Robin Hood movies. We tend to use people like Green, Flynn, Crowe, or Costner. At least Elwes had an English accent. Hell, Brooks had a better grasp of the characters than most American directors, and it was a freakin' parody for the love of squishy brown mud! (Then again, he had already done the classic 'When Things Were Rotten'.)

The BBC did a better version than pretty much everything that the US has done with it.
