I am looking for a free rule-set that can be used for dungeon crawls and one for larger scale fantasy combat. Does anyone have recommendations based on experience they would like to share? Thanks. |

Wargames Unlimited It's a free open source rule system. They have fantasy, & Scifi rule sets. The fantasy is called No Quarter, and Scifi is No Limits. Hope that helps. |

Also, Savage Worlds. You can get the Test Drive Rules for free, but I'm not sure about the skirmish rules. The miniatures-only rules are basically a stripped down version of the RPG rules, which is a very nice feature for not learning multiple rules sets. |

LotFP: Weird Fantasy Role-Playing http://lotfp.blogspot.com/ This is essentially the original Basic D&D, and is compatible to all the old D&D stuff out there. You can pick up old D&D modules on the internet for cheap. All you'll need after this is a copy of Creature Crucible from somewhere (eBay or your LGS in my case). I recently picked up Basic D&D on eBay because its simple enough that my son (8 ) could probably run an adventure. (And its cheap cheap cheap.) I'm sure this will offend a lot of people but when I firsted started playing D&D 4e I was immediately reminded of Basic D&D. Its simple and its concise. |

Do not neglect the joy of campaign based skirmish level gaming. ![]() Thoumont's, and the rest of the TLX sets can be used to great purpose with Mordheim. The Auld Grump |
