Well, I think you'd recover the license costs in productivity. If 10 employees save 1 hour/week using an integrated suite with good version control, etc, you pay it back in less than a year. If you factor in build issues, support and version tracking, I think the only thing you end up saving is having to come up with the license money at one time -- you're going to end up spending that much or more. You also have to consider hiring. Craigslist ad number 1: "WANTED: Graphic designers. Ten positions, must know Adobe suite on Mac or PC." Craigslist ad number 2: "WANTED: Graphic designers. Ten positions, must be comfortable working on Linux. Experience with GIMP, Scribus, Inkscape, and Cinelerra." And really, I don't think there *are* a good open source alternatives to Flash and Dreamweaver. OSFlash has some interesting utilities, but it isn't in the same ballpark. |
