See, I watch a lot of Hong Kong Kung Fu and I found Crouching Tiger to be just more of the same. Nothing really original from the usual Kung Fu movies. |

So, I recall the summer of 81. It was early summer, and we kept seeing these BAD-ASS promos for this AMAZING looking movie ... Clash of the Titans. We just knew it was going to be the next Star Wars. Also, we saw these stupid promos that was just a black screen with some funky jazzy writing scrawled across it, what was it? Oh yeah, Raiders of the Lost Ark. Looked stupid. Certainly no Clash of the Titans. It takes a lot to make a 12 year go, "wow, that was bad", but I came out of the theater after seeing Clash thinking just that. It was _BAD_. (And later we saw Raiders ... and the rest of that story is history.) So, let's just say I went in with pretty low expectations. And I wasn't disappointed. It was cheesy, but fun. Compared to the original, it was GREAT (of course, Ishtar looks pretty good next to 81's Clash). The effects were cool, the Kraken was bad-ass, and it's always nice to see Alexa Davalos (from Chronicles of Riddick) on the big screen (and Gemma is easy on the eyes, too). |
