MALIFAUX - WYRD.... http://wyrd-games.net/index.php This game has been mentioned with many positive comments on many forums and convention reports... and I picked up my Rulebook, Fate Deck and 2 Starter boxes (minis) last Saturday... and I have to say it looks very, very, very good!! The game is diceless, with a deck of cards providing everything you need with a combination of deck drawing and using cards from a control hand you possess. So the constant irritation of rolling ones won't apply here and the randomness can be controlled much of the time with careful use of the cards in your hand, but of course we still need that element of randomness... trust me and watch out for the Black Joker... nudge, nudge, wink, wink ![]() The mechanics seem to work well, the only issue I have at the moment (remember, I have only read the rulebook, I haven't played the game yet)... ah, yes, the only issue I have at the moment is that the turns are broken up into a heck of a lot of stages. Will be using the Quick Ref Sheet for quite a number of games methinks. I get the impression from reading the rulebook, that the game is set in a Wild West/Victorian setting with Frontier Towns, Swamps, Mines but also City areas akin to Victorian London... plenty of scope for games and terrain. They also have a very nice system for generating encounters/games with plenty of active terrain and environmental effects that can really bring the element of the unknown to games. In terms of investment, I don't see it costing a lot to start... 5 models and you have your basic level 'crew' (army)... but then you'll want alternative units for your 'crew', and then you'll see other miniatures in the other forces you like, and you'll need to start another army hahahahahaha ![]() Anyhoo, the game looks great, the miniatures are great (hey, they're Wyrd!!), and there are a lot of people on the Wyrd forums talking about using the new Himmelveil packs for their games... winner!! http://wyrd-games.net/showthread.php?t=7729 Due to the nature of the game, it may not appeal to everyone.... Zombie Hookers, Flesh Golems, Demons, Hot Chicks?? LOL!!! But I just know I'm gonna get hooked on this. It may even help me get over and replace the Confrontation 3.0/3.5 nightmare. I really need to get some games played to give a full opinion of the system though... hopefully soon woohoo!!! ![]() |

I have been eyeballing this, it looks like a breath of fresh air. It doesn't hurt that the minis are stunning either |

speaking as a playtester, Henchman, and general Malifaux fan, the game is great. I've played plenty of other games before, and Malifaux and Pulp City are probably my favorites. It should definitely help get past the 3.0/3.5 abandonment issues. It's not getting dropped anytime soon, and there are actually things sketched out for a few more books. ![]() And while the Fate decks are gorgeous and have the proper suits on them, you can play with a regular deck of cards. it's just your normal 4 suits, 52 card, and 2 jokers. The suit conversion are actually in the rulebook. The Himmelveil streets and sewers fit the city of Malifaux really well. |
