So after years of working with unpainted minis, pre-painted plastic minis and OP (Other People's) Painted Minis, I've finally decided I want to try my hand at painting minis....

So anyone have any links or suggestions to help me get started?

First suggestion? Cheat. is a link to a guide I wrote up about washing with wood-stain. I've never been a terribly good mini-painter, but I can certainly block out basic colors, drybrush and then wash.

I started taking Painting Lessons at my local Games Workshop store. Check and see if you have one around.

Was not aware they did classes. May have to look into that myself.

Reaper's forum is the best place to really talk to other painters of all skill levels and learn things in a very newbie friendly environment.

Games Workshop's "How to paint miniatures" book is invaluable. I have an older edition but I still go back to it from time to time to review the basics and remind myself of techniques I may have forgotten.

While putting my paper modeling building on hold (until more info on Robo Craft and Denny's new top secret announcement) I've been painting my Descent miniatures. I'm also a total newbie and have completed ~40 miniatures in less than a week, with my girlfriends help. I'm using the dip method and will post BEFORE and AFTER dip pics as soon as my next batch is dipped and dried. I should be able to post them on Monday, I'm going out of town for a couple of days.

I had just gotten started on my mini painting when my wife decided that we needed to convert my old office (which once hosted all night online gaming sessions, and was decorated with SI Swimsuit Calendar/Fantasy Artwork) and turn it into my Daughters bedroom.... (Pink and Mint green with cute fairy/princess pictures)
Oh and she wanted hardwood floors put in three rooms too.

So any sort of mini painting got put on hold while I do some around the house work. Hopefully this weekend I'll get the last of the major work done, so I might be able to get back to mini painting next week.
