From a game yeas ago: Player: Get real! It woudln't happen like that! GM: Real? Real! This is all fiction. That said, one of the rules of good fiction is maintaining credibility with the audience - lose that and the illusion is broken. Still, just 30mins before I get to see this. Hope it matches he build up. |

Just saw this, not bad - feel glad I saw it in the House as I had the feeling that I was on the cusp of a new Chapter. Lord Abaddon of Wormwood |

You know... I found all the 'Deus Ex Machina' ploys (picking up the characters in the film and getting the whole shebang back on track) a little thin. In fact... I'm not sure if the story is any good, but the execution is mind blowingly awesome. I guess that in this case, the 'Deus Ex Machina' is not the purpose of the film which is why its good. In one scene (and those who saw it will remember) I leaned over to my wife and said... "He's wearing red." Its like a joke that everyone in the audience knows, but the actor doesn't. The actor probably showed up at the set that day and was told here, put this on... "Oh dang...." And who cares about Kirk! I wanna do the green chick! |

Saw it Sunday. While I like it much better than a lot of the other Trek Movies (sorry still doesn't beat Wrath of Khan) I find the premise all the more disturbing..... Ever since they found in TOS that using the Suns Gravity you could go back in time doing so...... doesn't that open up the whole. "Oh shit! That didn't work out so well, let's fly toward the sun and change it all back"! But there's an coming out to this one in 2011. Hopefully the execution of the story lines will be just as good. |

I enjoyed the movie, though there were a few bits that were not so great. The story wasn't very original, but it makes sense at the best way to reboot the series for a younger crowd. My wife is a Trekkie and was annoyed by quite a few things... as they have set it up now that they can do anything, and ignore everything that is known. I thought the actors were good choices, and didn't have any problems with them. The romance moments were strange, but with a reboot, it didn't have as much impact as I would have expected. The only real problems I had with the film were the overzealous CG guys who seemed to want to include every trick they knew how to do. The lightning whenever the spikey ship or wormholes were on screen became unwatchable for me, sadly. The bridge, was really too busy with the reflections so it was hard to focus on the actors. Overall, a good film... could have been better... but was fun, and the time went by quickly. I look forward to the next one... and hope that someone restrains the effects team a bit. Arabin |

The sad thing is that Star Trek is the first (and so far only) movie that I have really wanted to see this summer. (It probably comes as no surprise that I will NOT be seeing Transformers... unless I was paid really quite a lot of money to do so.) The Auld Grump |
