I'm pretty sure it will be straight forward. I use D&D adventures for my GURPS campaigns. Where it says Goblin (D&D) I replace with a Goblin (GURPS). Honestly adventures are 95% stories and background and only 5% rules.

If they do it more than once, you're not slapping them hard enough.

I don't know anything about 4th ed. But WotC/TSR has stayed fairly consistent with power levels, at the low end anyway. Try it and see, if it's too easy, send in reinforcements, too hard and the bad guys start slipping on the blood of the fallen. Adjust and move on is my motto. Just keep it fun for all, including you.

From what I've seen of 4th edition, convertability is very easy. The two main things to keep in mind is:

1) Do not get hung up on the pre-defined levels and items. 4E's levels do not map well 1:1 with 3.5's, nor do its items. You'll need to scale both appropriately. Focus on running the AP sequencially and making both the encounters and the treasures fit the 4E model, rather than being word-for-word or item-for-item what the creatures have on them. Use the latter fro inspiration only.

2) 4E has obviously been influenced by the world of MMOs. I'm not saying this to start an argument, but more to point out an important concept here. A common them in MMOs is to reuse the same model for many different levels of foe, wrapped in a different "skin". 4E does this as well, and as such, scales really well. You have, for example, a baseline Ogre that is, I think (don't have books on hand) a L9 monster. You also have rules conveniently on hand to turn that into a L4 through L14 monster in about a minute. So if the cnounter calls for an Ogre, it's easy to add one.

The more unique and unusual critters from 4E? Those will be a bit harder, as you'll have to try and find something even vaguely similar and alter it to fit.


Another potential hangup to watch out for is that 4E is strongly balanced around the 5 players = 5 monsters idea, with Solo monsters being both unusual and quite powerful. You have to get the "hang" of it philosophically to make it work properly.


I guess the best summary of the above is that yes, it's quite doable...but don't try to do it on the fly. Goblin =/= Goblin! The storylines are phenominal though, so it's well worth the effort. Just plan ahead, make copious notes for where you think the group will get to, and charge onwards.

Funny, our experience was quite the opposite.

In Seekers of the Ashen Crown, there was a goblin warlord and a gobllin shaman thingie trying to stop us, but with the right combination of twinked heroes, we not only resisted their spells, but we totally decimated his entire 20 goblin force in like six turns. I think our warlock was the only one who fell below 50% of his health during the encounter.

They also ran away in the end.

Is this the same module?

I have noticed that monsters in general last a little longer. They last long enough to give a good idea of what nifty powers they have...and then they are promptly disposed of. At my table the combat rounds move about twice as fast as they did in 3.5 and there seems to be about twice as many rounds.

I haven't tried it, but I think that a conversion wouldn't be too difficult...assuming you have the time.
