Post subject: | Wargames Factory Plastic Zombies |
I ran across when I went to see how the Celts miniatures I pre-ordered were coming along - Wargames Factory is doing a limited run of plastic zombies. Apparently they have an ongoing series of contests for plastic miniature ideas, with those that make it to 1000 pre-orders getting made. These happy fellows are modern zombies, something that I know has come up before. I am ordering four sprues, looks very nice(?) so far. These are my favorites - Most have separate heads, arms, torso, legs, though one or two have torso and legs as one piece. Current rundown of the sprue - 1 x Dr. Zed (and/or duster/raincoat Zed) 1 x Fat guy torso 1 x Bare chested surfer-dude torso 1 x rotted shirt torso 1 x suit torso 1 x button down shirt torso 1 x drawstring short legs 1 x rotted long pant legs 1 x suit pants 1 x mailman shorts 1 x cargo pants 4 x sleeve right arms 4 x bare right arms 9 x heads The Auld Grump, brraaaiiinnnsss! |

Hmmm, looks like they also have up for voting. Not nearly as far along yet, but they have only been up since January 3rd. The male zombies on the other hand blew past the 1,000 sprues they were looking for, and are working on 2,000. (It was already past 1,500 by the time I even heard about this.) The Auld Grump, hmmm, a tyrannosaur is up for votes as well? Hmmmm..... |

I have my name on the zombies, the WWII Germans, and a couple of others. A t-rex could be nice as well. Or some raptors. ![]() |

I put down for a number of sprues.... what the fack for I ask myself? As I haven't painted in years. Thinking that doing a block & dip method might be the way to go. Lord Abaddon of Wormwood |

Ab, I will try to remember to bring my camera next time I game with my buddy who swears by dip. He does a basic coat, an extreme highlight, then dips in brown wash and they look PHENOMENAL. I'm going to do it myself when I can get some white semi-gloss spray paint. Might break down and get GW brand as it goes on much smoother than other sprays I've used. May try Armoury as well. Best to base in white, paint in BRIGHT colors, highlight in near white, then dip. |

Actually he uses straight floor finish. Minwax polyurethane finish in the US. is a Google image search with some very nice results. It does get a bit shiny, but thats easy to fix with a clear coat of dull afterwards. |

Which results are you talking about? The officer in khaki or the war machine ones? The war machine ones are very nice, but he didn't post any of them before the dip so there is no way to judge how well they were painted. But the khaki ones is way too glossy for me, I couldn't stand them that way. Perhaps dull coat would fix it but there aren't any pics of that. But I may give this a try anyway. I stopped trying to paint figures a long time ago, but I think I do have a couple already blocked out, so just doing the dip thing is easy enough. |

I took a peek at these the other day, it'll be nice to see the final painted product. I'm curious though, do they only do production runs when they reach a certain preorder level? ![]() |

Yesterday I got the Pledge One Go - which is the Aussie version of Future Floor Finish at a local chain of supermarkets. I aim to mix up the following: Punkrabbitt's "Special Secret Sauce" Ingredients: 1 oz. Higgins Black India Ink 1 oz. Higgins Brown Ink 5 oz. Future Floor Finish 2 oz. Distilled Water 16 oz. Container with watertight lid, the wider the better Today will be "get the ink day" as I know that different ink have different properties, so I need to do a little research and tracking. I have the starter set of HorrorClix floating around - my only buy into the Clix range, they have been given the job of test subjects as they are already painted. Now I know that this is a Magic Wash vs. a Dip but once you start to look at the make up.... to me same old, same old. The milk frother is now also on the list. I found that DakkaDakka link about the same time as Kane posted. - in this article is a pdf by Dark Age minis with the above recipe. Lord Abaddon of Wormwood |

Pretty sure that ink/finish mix gives you just about the same product. For our purposes, at the very least, should be the same. Post pics! |

Don't forget the . It still needs more preorders to be put in production. If only we could get everyone that ordered the male zombie sprue to preorder some female ones then they would go into production. |

It has taken nearly a solid hour for the bubble to settle. Needless to say I will have to be very careful in handling it in order not to get it too excited. Going to dip the Proto Cyborg in a second. Lord Abaddon of Wormwood |

. Ok the result is very raw. I knew and know now that actual dipping of the figure was not the way to go. Next times I will use a brush to apply and a second brush to control. But not too foul. *edit* just waiting for him to dry completely Lord Abaddon of Wormwood |

Of course I didn't spin or shake this too much though I did use a tiny bit of paper towel to wick some of the wash of his chest. So this needs to be taken into account as well. Lord Abaddon of Wormwood |

Yeah, it could have come out better. Nice enough on the machine bits, but not so nice on the shoulders or feet. I look forward to seeing your future experiments. Perhaps you should pull them off the bases. Your getting some of the dip in the dial. |

Not worried about the dial. This was the first mini that had paint on it + was closest. The day is hot in the sun so it was drying as I right it from the Jar. Lord Abaddon of Wormwood |
