Post subject: | Fractal Mapper Questions |
Hi guys. A few months back a friend dumped his entire library of RPG software on me (something about getting married and promising not to be a spend-happy packrat anymore). He had *everything*. All the NBOS stuff, the ProFantasy stuff, etc. I'm not interested in half of it, but there are a few cool functions. I'd like to use Terraformer to generate Icosahedron maps and then transfer the image to Cosmographer Pro (updated for CC3) for a hex overlay. Problems follow. 1) How can I paint just one type of climate at a time? I click the climate I wish to paint and I get neighboring climate times at the edges of my paint line. Is this part of the algorithm? 2) How can I click a climate button on the climate selector and have it stay there? Currently I have to manually type in the value number to select a particular climate. 3) Paintbrush sizes don't stay where they're supposed to. Sometimes I see them revert to 1 and 1. 4) The smoothing function doesn't do anything. I can set to 50 or -50 and nothing visible happens. 5) In Cosmographer I can select and open the Icosahedron template and paint hexes. However the hexes at the edges don't get truncated properly when I refresh the map. That'll do for starters, but I'm sorely tempted to dump the whole library in the trash. The programs don't do what the directions say they're supposed to do and button and command locations aren't where they're supposed to be. It might just be the CC2-CC3 upgrade problem, but yuck. I expect better for $500 worth of software (even if I got it for free). If this doesn't work out, I'll just pull out my trusty copies of CorelDraw and Illustrator and try and find some other freebie fractal world generator. Edit Full disclosure: I might just have to dump the whole thing anyhow. The copies are electronic and the serial #s are in my friend's name. If ProFantasy won't transfer the account ownership, I'll just dump it. Disclosed since that's a sensitive subject here. Consider it a "convince me to buy the darn thing or put out the effort to transfer ownership" question. |

Well for starters your friend should be able transfer the serial numbers over. I've always had pleasant experiences when dealing with profantasy. For Fractal Mapper I can not help you. If your using Fractal Terrains Pro from Profantasy I can give you a few tips. First Don't Panic! CC3 is an awesome tool. It takes time to learn how to use it properly. You can make some stunningly beautiful maps with it. Here is one I made with Fractal Terrains (FT) and CC3 (it made map of the month for October!) Go to the and/or for plenty of advice. I would not just 'chuck' the software away mate. I have all of them and they are great! It just takes some time to use it properly. |
