NO SPOILERS, well. minor ones. This is an XBOX game that is backwards compatible for the 360...barely. It was standard def, but got run through a 4X AA on the 360 which makes it look perkier. I finished it at MIDNIGHT last night, it's the first "horror survival" game I've played, and the first I've finished. It's great! Most of the Mythos stuff is right out of the books, nicely done. I enjoyed the sanity aspect, even though it meant I could not "look" at some weird stuff. Husbanding the limited resources was challenging. I also loved the "No HUD" idea, very immersive. The graphics are decent...but it still reminds you it's a 2005 game that was in dev for way too long. It's HARD. Really hard. I got thoroughly stuck at: Busting that guy out of jail Sneaking into the cannery Climbing the wave-swept rocks Using the deck gun Fighting Robert Marsh - That was a bad one! No save point for a while after you beat him too. Each of these took at LEAST 20 reloads and took a LONG time to beat. Some of these have a TERRIBLE VIDEOGAME SIN: Unskippable cutscenes. Booo! It's also quite long. At the end it gives you a ranking based on number of saves and time to complete...I got a "D", the lowest rank, because I used too many saves (69) and took too long, 7.5 hours. 154 kills of which 95 were headshots. Boom! Al in all very enjoyable. Quite horrifying too, trouble is I do not scare easily. And I LOVED the "swinging" ending! |

I played this game a couple years ago. I agree, there are some very tough spots. That why I love gamefaqs.com. It was my first introduction to Cthulhu. It was interesting enough that I started reading one of the books. But while I find the ideas interesting, I never really got pulled into any of it. I think it could be a great basis for an incredible movie or game if done by the right person. |

Funny, just started playing this. It did not age well for me. Graphics are serviceable, but the game is just so very linear. Only one right way to go from point A to point B often with no clue how to get there. Feel boxed in even out on the town streets. At least BioShock has a legitimate setting excuse for such a claustrophobic setting. Not a BAD game, just could have been so much more. |
