Big fan of the rules and minis of this one, but have not invested in much. Just have the Two Towers boxed set (which is, amazingly, enough to get a good game of it!). Would really like to get the old boxed sets (Fellowship of the Ring and Return of the King) but eBay is not being very cooperative as the GW LotR is mixed in with every other LotR game ever made. Anyone know of any shops that have these? Want the complete sets. Planning on getting the new Mines of Moria set...but not until I complete my collection! |

Since you posted this I went and peaked at the GW site and was surprised to see that the prices on the bulk miniatures isn't too bad: |

This line is still VERY much active. It has surpassed WHFB as their #2 game! It is the system they use for most of their historicals (the ancient systems use the WHFB rules). It has even been adapted to a realistic pirates game that some friends and I are getting into. The minis are still CHEAP too. Around $1-$2 for plastic troops. The metal characters are, naturally, about $5-$7 on foot, another $10 for mounted. Its also one of the most flexible systems in that it handles battles from 3 characters per side to the Two Towers very well. Typical army is around 750 points and consists of 10 models. But, of course, characters count for a lot more so 6 of the Fellowship would take up your whole force or you can have 1 character and a bunch of soldiers. Very flexible as to what is effective. |
