Kinda like the lameness of Guitar Hero in that you don't actually require talent to show off. I don't understand air guitar competitions in the same way that I don't understand kids uploading Guitar Hero level wins on Youtube. I guess I'm old and still appreciate things that take time to learn and the act of creation via ones "craft". Earning your stripes and all that. |

Yes, get off my lawn and quit playing them pertend geetars. I cannot do rhythm games. At all! It reminds me of playing Space Ace. That's why I never got far in GTA: San Andreas. |

I saw two people playing this game at a local gaming store the other day. I tried to figure it out as the screen told them what buttons to hit and for how long...Maybe it is more challenging than that or maybe they love music. |

Most of my friends said they would never play Rock Band. Once they did, they were hooked and everyone wants to play it now. The closest thing I can think of is Simon. Imagine if Simon was set to actual songs with complex note charts on the harder difficulties but with only the light cues an a rudimentary understanding of scale progression as a guide. Real-time Simon, as it were. |

Well, watching kind of says it all for me. To be really good at playing these games you actually have to counteract the latency of the system enough that you need to be playing slightly ahead of the beats, which is going to be a problem for you if you ever try to transfer your rhythm game skill into playing actual music. Also; air guitar? That was an 80s fad, wasn't it? Is it really back? And the rhythm game bit in GTA:SA was something like .01% of the game and you could fail it without it hindering your progress. The only rhythm game I ever enjoyed - however briefly - was Parappa The Rapper on PS1. Because at least that was somewhat funny and charming. That said, if it awakens interest in making music of their own in just a miniscule perecntage of the players, I'll be all for these games. The more music gets made, the more there will be in that 1% that doesn't suck. |

I think what all the "guitar hero haters" don't understand is that guitar hero (and other rhythm games) are not about simulating creating music, they're about simulating being a rock star. Ask any serious player of guitar hero and they will be honest in admitting that guitar hero doesn't make you any better at guitar, it requires an entirely different skill set. I don't understand how you guys can be serious in your criticism of the game. What you guys are saying is why play flight sims when you can just go get a pilots license, why play war shooters when you can just join the military. I think everyone who plays it is smart enough to realize that it's just a game. I'll leave you guys with a couple related comics that sum it up better than I can. Sacretis PS. Sorry if that came off harsh. It's kind of a pet peeve of mine. |

Heh - I remember running across the Guitar Hero version of Dueling Banjos on YouTube. I may never play the game, but his comments about how easy it was at first, and then the wall of notes hit.... De de dun dun dun dun dun dun dun! The Auld Grump - the only good Burt Reynolds movie was Deliverance, in my not humble at all opinion. |

Hey I didn't say they weren't fun. I've played all of the Guitar Hero variants as well as Rockband (my nephews are really into it) and I had a great time. My point was that I didn't understand why people brag about acing a level and posting it on Youtube. I think that gets most guitar players goat. |
