Thanks Kane! That looks pretty good, but you think he would have the hinderance Outsider as well? |

Hmmm...depends on if its the movie or comic version. In the comic people don't seem to react so much to how odd he is. |

I have most of the trades. Got them from Half Price Books on Capitol Hill. The main difference is that in the comic, he is more of an oddity than a secret. With eldritch horrors ripping apart the world, Hellboy barely stands out. |

I saw it tonight with my SteamCraft group. Not a bad movie - it reminded my players of my own fixation with the fey. ![]() The pacing was a bit choppy, I suspect that a director's cut would add another twenty to thirty minutes to an already long movie. But I'd buy it. In a heartbeat. Interesting take on the Invasion cycle, though the faces were changed around more than a little. [Minor spoilers ahead, just names and their mythological associations. Highlight to read] - (Like Odin, Balor is traditionally depicted with a single eye - often in the middle of his forehead. He is asociated with the sun, Baal, the derivatives Beelzebub and Balrog, and the city of Baltimore. ![]() The Auld Grump |

Now I've thought about it for a few days, I can see where the film kind of faltered, it was trying to tell a bunch of stories at the same time, and succeeding at most of them. There was only one thing that bugged me bad, it it was personal. Seth McFarlane's voice. The steampunk style was nice to see, it was almost overkill. I also think they should have had one big shot when the army was activated, where the camera pulls back...and back...and back to show all of them clanking away. They had a shot, but it didn't seem to go far enough, I was thinking like the first shot of Star Trek 8: First Contact. Overall the cinematography was excellent. Del Toro has a GREAT DOP. I also have been a fan of film designer Wayne Barlowe since the 70's, when I saved up for a copy of Barlowe's Guide To Extraterrestrials. Many of his hallmarks were present in the creature design. Recently he also did a kick-@ss version of the Inferno: http://www.waynebarlowe.com/barlowe_pag ... nferno.htm Get them on the Mountains of Madness, right away!!! |

That's what I was trying to pin down about him!!! Good catch. It's also really similar to his German fish character, also super annoying. The worst thing is, some people I like and respect actually love Family Guy. Double arrghh. |

Speaking of Del Toro and Lovecraft. He's spoken for a couple of years now about getting rights and doing At the Mountains of Madness. I think he may be the guy to actually bring Lovecraft to the cinema in a manner that isn't so painfully B rate. Hope it works out. |

In my opinion, ANY Lovecraft should be a period piece. I think a proper version of "Shadow over Innsmouth" would be great. Anyone ever see that 70's version of "The Dunwich Horror" with Dean Stockwell? |

*Shudder!* Gods, I hated that movie - aside from a (good) Night Gallery episode that was the first time I saw a dramatic performance of an H.P.L. story. (The Night Gallery episode was Pickman's Model - a perfect match for the premise of the show. ![]() H.P.L. has fared about as well as Stephen King in regards to film.... The Auld Grump |

HPL has been poorly served, as much as Philip K Dick. HOWEVER...did anyone see the 2005 Call Of Cthulhu Silent fanfilm? It's really awesome and is very faithful. You even get to see the Big C in action!!! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XHuY2wXTd0o I also LOVED Stewart Gordon's "From Beyond". |

Dean Stockwell doesn't look much different in Dune as Dr. Yueh! ![]() |

Holy toledo that IS him!!! Brother Cavell and Captain Picard in the same movie... I saw that one in the theatre. I love the production design, it was one of the first big movies filmed in Eastern Europe. |
